Please help - guards took my gear!

I presume this is a bug - it certainly makes no sense if it is not. I performed an assination (I had a writ) and then spoke to the guard (as I am supposed to do). I gave him the writ and he said everything was cool. However, I noticed (too late to go back to a saved game) that he took some of my gear as well (even though there was no notice of this). My question now is - where is my gear (if anywhere) so I can go retrieve it?

If you pay a fine by a guard he takes everything that you have stolen.
So this must be the same if you have a writ.
If you pay a fine to a guard drop everything you stole (in my case everything i have) on the ground, then he can't take it.

Your stuf should be in a evedence box (located near the closest jail)
If you don't know where just get arrested and go to jail by the same guard.
This way you shold find your stuf

Where is evidence box?

I met the guards in Vivec, so I presume the evidence box I need to find is in Ebonheart? If this is so, can anybody tell me approximately where in Ebonheart to look (if this is not the correct place, please tell me where).

Well, I know that there is a mod which allows you to cash in a "writ" without losing the goods... I'll look for it.

The evidence box in Ebonheart, is located in the garrison quarters.

Go in to Ebonheart until you find a well, then go to the right (into a small casltle) and turn right after the gate. It's the door to the right of the gate.
It's guarded by a men that sells armor and he is very close to the box at all time.

Hope you find it.
