Well, only if you make a critical hit than the strength value is added to the damage value of the weapon. So the formular is only true if you have a weapon skill of 100 % = 100% possibility of making a critical hit. Anyway, I think another difference are the different combat moves available for 1 hand and 2nd hand weapon which means different fighting styles. But I think speed and reach are the obvious tactical parameter. I wouln't try attacking the bloodflies with a 2-Hander . Since both weapon skills are connected you will always be a great fighter in one style and a good fighter in the other style. I always used both styles because I think fighting with just one kind of weapon is a bit boring over the whole course of the game.
