If it were 8 + 35, taking the average down to straight 14s, you'd have the system that I use in MY tabletop games. It's high powered because I've removed stat enhanching items (not spells or class abilities, though dragon disciple and frenzied berserker had to go for balance reasons). Makes selecting a race and class much more challenging (no paladins with 10 wisdom, counting on getting a +4 item to cast spells). _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Val - I've not sent you a charachter yet, cuz I haven't yet decided what I'd like to try out. Right now an outcast being from a plane of air (no special abilities really but has an affinity for things Air related and a weakness to Earth), who lost his right hand after being caught thieving (it was a set up BTW). Cast out to die, he was picked up by a wondering mage who crafted a silver hand for him reformed him from his theiving ways, and left him in the care of traveling acting troop ... where he learned to entertain (2-3 levels of thief, 5-6 levels of bard). One day while carving a bishop for a chess game and humming a tune he found himself in Sigil.
Also in consideration:
A rock singer from the sixities (w/ dragon blood since I have no other explanation as to how he could've survived the drugs he took), with really bad BO and a drug habit. He dissappeared in the middle of a performance.
A satyr monk (I love the idea ... satyrs are supposed to be party animals, and the visuals of a satyr doing a Tae Kwon Do spinning kick to the head is really quite amusing) or bard.
I really like all three and so have not focused in on one yet. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Yes, I have been looking at reworking the starting stats. I made Fall-From-Grace's character sheet yesterday using that system and she is seriously over-powered. So going with stats starting at 8 with 35 points to buy sounds better. I'll rework her sheet with that and see if that works better.
@Lintra: Those all sound promising. I like the satyr and air outsider ideas the best. But it's your choice. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

I've got two or three kicking about as well. Hardest part is avoiding cliches when making extraplanar type characters. The tiefling paladin and the aasimar turned evil have been done to death, etc, etc, as has the half-celestial/half-fiend paladin/blackguard with a multiple personality who spends his entire wretched existence hunting himself down, convinced that he is being hounded by that goody two-shoe/reputation is being ruined by that evil madman. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

After much consideration I killed the idea of a half celestial type (too over powered and I had difficulty in stretching the character to fit the rouge template I had in mind), and decided against the bard class. It just isn't in my blood and I am too out of practice to stretch that far ... so I went with ... well lets just see if Val likes it or not *grin*
If not I have a back up ready to go pretty quickly. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Half-Celestials are powerful... not as powerful as they were in 3.0, mind you (I can provide the 3.5 statistics, though they should be in the SRD link Val posted)... but they pay for this by having to give up three levels. Three levels is a big thing in a lot of classes cases.
Monster characters get hit hard. A succubus with her full powers (for example) being 9 levels lower than her friends must really rely on her powers... which really aren't that great when compared to 9 levels of a character class. Unusual PCs pay to play... even that Satyr is something like 4 levels to play (I'd have to check Savage Species to be certain). _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Xen according to the 3.5 on lines rules:
SATYRS AS CHARACTERS
Satyr characters possess the following racial traits.
— +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma.
—Medium size.
—A satyr’s base land speed is 40 feet.
—Low-light vision.
—Racial Hit Dice: A satyr begins with five levels of fey, which provide 5d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +1, Ref +4, and Will +4.
—Racial Skills: A satyr’s fey levels give it skill points equal to 8 x(6 + Int modifier). Its class skills are Bluff, Hide, Knowledge (nature), Listen, Move Silently, Perform, and Spot. Satyrs have a +4 racial bonus on Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Perform, and Spot checks.
—Racial Feats: A satyr’s fey levels give it two feats. A satyr receives Alertness as a bonus feat.
— +4 natural armor bonus.
—Natural Weapons: Head butt (1d6).
—Special Attacks (see above): Pipes.
—Special Qualities (see above): Damage reduction 5/cold iron.
—Automatic Languages: Sylvan. Bonus Languages: Common, Elven, Gnome.
—Favored Class: Bard.
—Level adjustment +2.
So this means (I suppose) that you trade two character levels for 5 levels of fey ... not too bad a trade. So if Val says "Make a 7th level character" the Satyr (assuming he's a Bard) would be a 5th level bard?
Am I reading that correctly, or would the 5 levels of fey + the 2 level adjustment lead to a level 0 bard? I am not sure how to read this, and the rules have really flipped around since 3.0 .
Edit - okay after reading the3.5 rules on this it appears that a character L7 would translate to L5 fey + L0 Bard, + 2 Levels of penalty. NOT such a good deal after all!!! Especially when one considers that to advance to a level 1 bard the poor satyr would have to earn 7,000 exp pts!! Am I correct about this? _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Your edit is correct. Effective Character Level (ECL) = HD (Hit Dice) + LA (Level Adjustment).
However, some DMs allow you to drop the inferior racial hit dice and just use the level adjustment. This really only works with LA +4 or less characters... any higher and you end up with things like Mind Flayers in a level 8 game with 12 hit points. Mind Flayer powers aren't enough to save you from THAT. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I sent my proposed character to your yahoo email address... do you want me to resend it to your rpgdot address? _________________ If soot stains your tunic, dye it black. This is vengeance.

That won't be necessary. I'm reviewing yours and three others at the moment. I'll let you know what I think. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

It's like homework all over again! Will you be giving gold stars for good submissions? _________________ Charlie Dobbie

The gold star is being able to play.
I've got my five character concepts in. With potentially a penguin and a satyr two of them aren't really needed... but they're all pretty cool when expanded to their full sized bios (which I didn't want to hammer poor Val with until she'd narrowed the field down). _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Damnit Val! You would pick a game I've never played before. How long is the game? Maybe I can blast through it this weekend. I really want to play, especially since Ammon flaked out on the other campaign. _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-

You could probably play through it in a week I'd guess. But to get a feel for the game world it would probably only take a few days. I'm willing to wait if everybody else is (assuming my character isn't culled ). Of course, the way it looks there would still be room for you when ever you are ready. _________________ If soot stains your tunic, dye it black. This is vengeance.

I got it and I'm playing. It's a fun little game, although I don't care much for the top down perspective, but I can live with it. Morte is quickly on his way to becoming my fav NPC of all time. He is so funny!
Right now I'm running around the Hive chatting NPCs and beating down thugs! This game definately has a cool atmosphere and I can see why Val picked it.
I got a question for Xen. I'm hoping to play a Djinni rogue. The Djinni looks like it'll fit that class and I have some good ideas for a story for her. What I don't understand is the whole class deal in determining how many classes of Djinni, or whatever class, I need before I can start getting rogue levels. Could you explain it a bit please? _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-
