Well, any character will eventually become too powerful. But there are things you can do to delay it! If you want to keep the game challenging for as long as possible, try some of the following:

Don't have a house. Carry everything you need, don't rely on having a safe place to keep equipment.

Don't sell anything to the Creeper or the Talking Mudcrab.

Don't enchant items. Treat magical items as relics to use or sell. If you want an item that does a certain thing, go look for it.

Every level, put a point into Luck. This will benefit you in the long run, but will cut your "usual" level up bonuses by a third - greatly slows down your character's development.

Don't buy Soul Gems from renewable sources (e.g. the Enchanter in Mournhold). If you're going to trap a soul you better hunt around for the gems you need.

Don't steal. It's too easy to make money this way, and the penalties the game imposes aren't a sufficient deterrent.

Don't use Long Swords - there's too many good ones in the game. Try Blunt or Spear for a more interesting game.

Don't "perfect" any particular weapon or armour skill. Once your Axe skill gets to 50, sell your axes and start using something else.

Don't use Alchemy. It's too easy to pump cash into it to improve your skill. Once you get to a certain point, cash you pump in gets paid back ten times over. Avoid it if possible, or at least never *buy* any components - hunt for the ingredients you need.

Try not to Recall or *Intervention when overloaded. It's very easy to clear out a dungeon by piling everything up, picking it all up, and recalling back to a rich merchant. Try to walk out of every situation you encounter.

As for making an Archer, I'd recommend going with Marksman (obviously!) and Light Armour (bonuses to AGI, less encumberance). A bit of Restoration and Conjuration will help for healing and magical weapons. You may want a melee weapon skill, unless you're intending to *just* use a bow - very tricky! Security is always useful, unless you want to get by with scrolls. Speechcraft is very handy.

I have to say though, if you've played several fighters and found them too easy, how about going for a pure mage? It'd be a different experience at least.

I've been toying with the idea of a pacifist monk - wears a robe, no shoes, carries a wooden staff and only uses it in self defence. I wonder how far you can get in each of the guilds without killing anyone?

try going for a character that is a weak fighter like a mage or a stealth class....don't know how far you would get or how well it would work but it is worth a try.....

Try one of the difficulty-increasing plug-ins.
