Whilst in the mine I tried to buy a beer for one of the guards, but when I moved them from the trader (who had 7) I got them all in the central column. So I had to trade him a stack of stuff in the end as I couldn't figure out how to just get the one (or two) of his total stocks across there.

Where have I missed the obvious?

use + left/right turn = 1 item
use + left/right strafe = 10 items
use + left/right turn + shift = 100 items

Ahhhh, excellent, many thanks for that. The manual section (here open beside me) only mentions the arrow left/right keys, but I'm using the alternate setup with the mouse + WASD setup, so I'm strafing, transferring 10 at a time.
