They're quite similar to the Ultima Underworld series. So much so that back when I didn't have the game and played the demo once I was done I pulled out my old Ultima Underworld (The Stygian Abyss) CD and finished the game all over again (FYI it was a bundle CD which came with my Sound Blaster Pro).

There's also the UW "secret runes" to lower the texture resolution to something reminescent of, obviously, UW

UW runes

I been trying and trying the UW. Do you need actual runes to do it, or just magic mode draw them. I did get a strange little line drawing once, but can for the life of me remember what characters i drew!

Also, which ultima game do start with, there are so many to buy.....

I never managed to do the U and W runes...

As for which, well, see all the ultimas up to 8 are third person view.

Ultima Underworld: The Stigyan Abyss - the one I was talking about - would probably be your best bet, although it's the oldest so if you expect good graphics/controls forget about them...

I think Ultima 9 is also Firt Person but I don't recall, and anyway it's viewed as one of the worst ultimas, although the newest so it might not alienated you as much.

If you really feel like getting into the universe then start from the first

ok guys, wow

mad priest, which one do you recomend i start with?

i haave an "older"model, but its a pentium 2. my computer is pentium 4. both are suped up for games. (video card, etc. ati rage, surround sound)

is "underworld " the beginning of the story or is the namesake "ultima I"?

which would be less difficult to adapt to. having played diablo2 and arx? (if i have to learn another rune system, im gonna puke)

The best ultima to start with is part 4.

This one would run great on your computer and could be downloaded in less than 10 seconds.

This is the real start of ultima, as even the creator stated himself. This was the first game to make use of the karma system and virtues and what not. Although old and decrapitated now (compaired to parts 5 - 7) this game was still one of the best rpgs ever.

you need to write down the hints on a piece of paper , as there is no automatic log in the game. Also you must quicksave the game because if you die then they take all you inventory away.
