Getting through the barrier doesn't do much, there is nothing out there except the edge of the world where you fall off into nothingness.

I've gotten through the barrier in several places.
At the Swamp Camp outer harvest area (by Viran) there's a tree split buy the barrier. If you stand to the right side of this tree and jump, you will go through with vary little damage. Unfortunantly I haven't found a way back in yet!
At the exchage platform there is some waypoints outside the barrier. One of them is Game_Start.
Still in the barrier, but a cool spot, is the area behind the Harpy Castle. Just accros the bridge to the Orc Graveyard you can climb up on the right and go behind the harpies to the area over Xardas' Sunken Tower. You can walk into a tunnel right undernieth the river up there!
I have also K-keyed through the barrier above the Free Mine Camp. There are alot of places you can go up into the hills there. You can also cross to the Orc Camp.

Most people climb around in the hills when they 1s start the game. I don't seem to have ever got over this phase.

I forgot to mention that at the Exchange Platform you can jump through the barrier and into the lake without taking hardly any damage. If you go up there you might want to insert all the cut scene characters.
