I'm a literate PC user, first of all, and I recently downloaded a few plugin files for Morrowind. After unzipping and added them to the loaded files list, I noticed my CPU jumped to 100% usage, and ofcourse my frames per second dropped drastically. I tested Jedi knight II and while not as noticable I still got a major decrease in performance. After deselecting them as loaded files, the problem still exists. I also noticed hundreds and HUNDREDS of .scr files(screensaver) had been generated, with names such as outlook.scr , morrowind.scr. Has anyone heard or seen anything about people packaging viruses with plugin files from major sites such as morrowind summit?
I didn't do any driver updating recently to cause the problem, or install any other crazy software.
Windows XP, 1.0gz AMD, geforce4ti4400, 512 ddr
pretty strange and agravating but interesting at the same time.
I was thinking it could be a virus that hogs the cpu and generates an .scr file for everything file on the drive(?!?!). Which is the impression I got after seeing the filenames. I didn't run any virus scanners and I just slicked the drive, so it's fixed now, post back with any thought or comments, Thanks and "may your kills be quick, and many" in Tamriel. |
