Fable: The Lost Chapters - Review @ 3DAvenue

3DAvenue's Nathan Davison releases his own rather remarkably rave review re Lionhead's epic "Fable: The Lost Chapters", which earns itself an overall 4 out of 5 star rating...

With Dungeon Siege II on its way also from Microsoft Games, it is easy to think they are flooding the market with RPG's by releasing Fable: TLC at around the same time. However, it is reasonably clear these two games are directed at two slightly different audiences - DSII seems to be a far more advanced RPG with full multiplayer capabilities, while Fable: TLC is perhaps aimed at the more casual RPG fan. I say this because, while it has reasonably good depth in most important areas of an RPG, the structure of the game, being limited to a "beginning and end" style single player mode, is best described as a "disposable" RPG experience. Any fan of the RPG genre will agree that a great RPG keeps you immersed in its virtual fantasy world for extended amounts of time because of its open world and dynamic environments, usually found online. Unfortunately, while Fable: TLC does feature a nice open ended single player experience, you're likely going to be done with the game entirely once you've finished it. The bottom line is, even despite the fact it is a console port, Fable: TLC is still a great all-round RPG on a platform which is engulfed in great RPG's - just don't expect it to be little more than a short term distraction.

If Dungeon Siege 2 is "a far more advanced RPG" I have no desire at all to play Fable. Lord help us if the "market is flooded with RPGs" by DS2 and Fable...

I also found those statements very weird. It looks like this reviewer considers stuff like Oblivion and Gothic III to be less "advanced" RPGs than Diablo II...

I also don't understand how he can say the PC is engulfed in RPGs. Maybe he's talking about MMORPGs like World of Warcraft? Not really the same genre, then, IMO.

Yeah, that's unbelievable...maybe the reviewer(s) are kids...I mean, everything would be perfectly explained if they were simply people under 30 who are likely not to know about 'real' cRPGs and how the original goal was to mimic the pen-and-paper experience...Lol, who knows, anymore? I never heard of this site, so who cares, really? Other than the fact that I likie Fable much better than most 'action' cRPGs, I'm jsut hoping Oblivion will come out by CHristams and blow EVERYONE"s mind...!
