Magic Use in Morrowind

Can't figure it out at all.

I am wearing the Ring of Healing, but how do I actually use it?

I bought spells from the merchant and he took my money but nothing appeared in my inventory.

I have lots of mushrooms etc. and while I can walk on water briefly, my skill level is not increasing (and I know that the mushrooms are in one of my two spell schools).

Does the PC learn spells permanently? If so, how is this accomplished?

How does one cast a spell against an opponent? I can only figure out how to use mushrooms etc on myself, but some of them have multiple uses, from what I can tell - spell effect on caster, and spell effect on opponent.

I can't figure out any of this from the manual - partly because the writing is just too darned small for my poor old eyes.

And finally, why does my avatar look like a man?

You can equipt it into quick slot (by pressing F1) or choose it in right down part of screen when in inventory screen.

It is in list of your spell (right down side of inventory screen as I said before).

Do not know.

I dont know what you mean.

Make it active (same as in previous lines), press R and then LMB (default).

Because it is default avatar. We will change avatar system soon.
