Help Needed in Dwarve Mines!!!

I have gone through the kitchen, chased by beast, jumped across metal plates to other side and collected stone of power, etc from dead dwarve. Now faced with a second beast returning back up passage and cannot kill it?

whats the deal here anyone?

thanks Fireangel

I'm at work so this will be a vague reponse, sorry. You need to run to the room with the crusher (room 15 on this map IIRC) and use the crusher which will need to be powered up. It's a bit tricky - post again if you're still stuck. The beasts can't be defeated in combat.

Dhruin is basically correct. Open the door in the hall before the beast gets there, run up to the crusher room, place the power cell in the generator (it's hard to find) and run up the ladder quickly. You can't fight the beast. It's tricky, but I managed to do it, so anyone can. If you get stuck, just ask.

You should have found a key on the dead dwarf; you have to use that on the door to unlock it, but be quick!!!!!

eeeee.....

Hmmm... I've done exactly as you tell. But the crusher won't hit the beast. Will the crusher hit the beast an crush it like a worm? I read another place that the crusher just bought me some time to get to the other rom and get the stuff in there....
How to get the beast killed ones and for all? And why did i not get the rune that should activate the portals, from the snakewoman in Arx city?

The crusher stuns the beast while you go to the other room and collect stuff. Then you can activate the sliding panel over the lava (You activate the switch in the other room) lure the beast into the lava. Simple.

I just started reading this thread because I'm having the same trouble. Where *exactly* is the masher/crusher in the smelting room. I'm up on the catwalk now, and I jump down (with my power stone double clicked and ready to use as my cursor in front of me). I run around and around the room like an idiot with the hellhound on my tail. This puzzle is ridiculously hard and obscure. I wonder how many people figured this out completely with no help of any kind. Please, where is the crusher? What does it look like. I noticed a 'mold for 2-hand sword' on top of some large structure in a corner. Is it near there? I don't see anything in the room 'highlight' when I move my cursor over it (except for the aforementioned mold). BTW, in running from room to room with the hound chasing me, once or twice I noticed another hound coming after me (unless the hound can teleport). Please tell there's only one of these guys to deal with.Thanks.

The locations and relationship between the machine, the masher, and the lever can be a little confusing, and is not at all intuitive. The machine that activates the masher is located along the Western wall of the smelting room (room 15), so when you arrive in the room go there first and put your powerstone in it. Then quickly (as the beast should be behind you) run up the ladder located along the NE corner. There is a lever located along the SW corner of the catwalk. It is a bit difficult to clearly see this lever, but find it first before doing anything else, because you will need to know exactly where it is in order to quickly activate it when the time comes. Part of the catwalk juts out across the floor, where you can see the masher head coming down from the ceiling. From this location, you must try to throw the dwarven meat directly under the masher. If successful, wait for the beast to begin approaching it, and then run to the lever. When the beast is under the masher, pull that lever!

There is some debate as to whether the beast becomes stunned by the masher, to return later to chase you, or is killed outright, only to have another beast take up the chase. Not sure which is the case, but have not heard of anyone seeing two beasts at the same time. From your recital of running room to room around that area with the beast(s) on the loose, it sounds like if anyone could have experienced that, it would have been you!

Thanks, I finished the puzzle. 'Not at all intuitive' to say the least. I'm almost positive that there are 2 beasts. The mangled, bloody mess under the masher did *not* look like it was about to *ever* get up. And when I ran out of the room another one came at me later. It was this one that jumped into the lava pit chasing me back *into* the room. Anyway, I'm off to explore more of the mines, and to take on more puzzles too obscure and difficult to figure out without frequent use of the hint guides and kind people like you on this excellent board. Really, just the use of a door that I could close behind me to stop the beast for a while to let me check out what was in the room would have made this an *enjoyable* puzzle. Running around like crazy with an invincible enemy on your heels, trying to find a button on the *side* of a machine that is very difficult to find is insane. Not to mention the other parts of this puzzle (too numerous to mention). Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but these kind of puzzles they could leave out of the sequel and I'd be happy. If this is an homage of sorts to 'Underworld', well, I don't remember anything like this in either UWs. And I still want to annotate my map. That is annoying to say the least. If they automatically updated the map for you with *all* important places, that would be OK, but this map just updates a few. Still, the option to write your own notes would give the game a much better feel. JMHO. And thanks again.

There's a rumour going around, which I'm just starting, that the development of Arx2 has been delayed a year while the devs read all the criticism of the beast puzzle. I doubt there will be anything similar in a sequel!!

I hope you're right. When I finished this puzzle, it actually made me want to take a break from the game for a while (this can be dangerous - I rarely go back and finish a game when this happens), but I'm playing now again. Just hope there are no other puzzles like this. Anyway, thanks again for the help.

only one beast -- not that that makes it any nicer

There is only one evil beastie thing. I call him Froedrick. I know this because I'm not very smart. After the crusher hit him, I stood around for a bit to see what was happening to him. And he shook it off and got up. Really. Give him a minute and up he gets up. Then he chased me and I wept. But I avoided him and gave him his own personal krptonite -- lava. God I hated this puzzle. I really hope Arx II doesn't REQUIRE a walkthrough. I mean, the game is basically Tomb Raider I with more dialogue. So might as well make the puzzles that good.

Thanks for confirming the existence of only one beastie. Great little story you have there, gave me a very good laugh.

I still adhere to the 2 beast theory. After using the masher on him, there was a mass of charred remains under it that was not there before. It was smoking and it looked like a number of mashed and dismembered limbs. I would like to see how these limbs re-assembled themselves. I don't know, maybe if you mash him just right he never gets back up and another one appears. ??? After running out of the room and confronting the other beast, I ran back into the room and jumped over the lava. He jumped in and died. Looking under the masher again, I saw that the remains of the first beast were still there. How could that be if I just killed him by jumping over the lava. There is a beast who just met his death in the lava, and there's the remains of a beast I mashed under the masher. 2 beasts. Anyway I just finished the game this morning and I have a question. How do you get into 'Underworld' mode? I drew UUW many , many times and finally got something. But all it was were the letters 'U' and 'W' kind of dancing up and down on the screen with some colors around them. I didn't see any other change. Was I supposed to press a key while these letters were on the screen? And is there a way of spelling these out to make it happen easier. I must have tried 20 times before the dancing letters appeared. Thanks.
