Ok I uninstalled the game (tried to run the uninstall program but it wouldnt work and i had to manually remove the files) and reinstalled it but when I try to run the game i get that mssdll32.dll error. I erased all the files again and when i try to install it it wont let me, it just gives me the option to repair or modify or remove, and neither of those options do anything. Someone help me!!! |

You can do one of two things. You can (if you or someone you know has the skills) completely clean out the registry of all Gothic related elements. This should solve the problem. If not, you can reformat your hard drive and start from scratch (reformatting undoes all the registry info). Personally, I reformat every so often (usually after I have several partially uninstalled programs on my system). Depending upon your OS, there might be an effective clean registry program out there - but I have never found one that really worked well - but it might be worth a try.

Well i did clean out all registry entries related to gothic but when i try to install i still get the choice of modify, repair, or remove. I really dont feel like uninstalling now I have too much stuff on there so I guess I'll just shelve the game for a bit. I can't belive how they would ship out a game like this. You would think they would notice a flaw like this during testing. |

Use the registry editor. The program should be located in the system folder. Delete the registry for Gothic ONLY. |

Due to the fact that the new InstallShield system is used you have to look for the GUID...
(I assume you are able to use RegEdit and you have the proper rights on the machine)
- run RegEdit and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
- search for 'gothic' until you find an entry: DisplayName(REG_SZ) = 'Gothic'
- the path name is the GUID for the installation ( on my machine '{BBF10B37-4ED3-11D5-A818-00500435FC18}' )
- search for this GUID string in the registry and delete the paths you will find ( should be two: in 'ArpCache' and 'Uninstall' )
- run Explorer and goto [programs]\InstallShield Installation Information\[GUID]
- delete that folder
That's it.
If you installed the patch (1.08k) you have to do the same thing for DisplayName = 'Gothic_Patch'.

disclaimer: don't blame me if your system stops working or anything else happens that should not happen.
ps: and don't tell me that the folder does not exist if you enabled 'hide system files' in the Explorer (default)! |
