Mark on self?

I have a ring which can cast "mark on self" ... only I have no clue as to what it means... I've read some stuff about mark and recall, but then I thought, 'hey - you cant mark yourself as teleport , that would do nothing or telefrag yourself'.
So, help.

I also posted this thread in spoilers so you can spoil it all for me.

Mark and Recall

You Mark yourself where ever you want to recall to. Then when you wanna go back, you do recall. Your mark spot shows on your map. I marked myself next to Creeper for a while. Now I am marked in my house. I use Almsivi intervention and/or Divine intervention depending on where I am to get to towns for silt rides and/or mage/boat travel. There are mark and recall potions as well.
