Is a Price Hike Inevitable? @ GameDaily.biz

The last article on the possibility of gaming price rises sparked widespread debate on the 'net. This time GameDaily.biz has taken a <a href="http://biz.gamedaily.com/features.asp?article_id=8055§ion=feature&email=" target="_blank">look</a> at this topic with arguments from diferent industry commentators and perspectives:<blockquote><em>Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, told GameDAILY BIZ, "It's pretty simple; it's just economics. If costs go up for the producer, the manufacturer, they'll go up for the consumer. Gasoline is the perfect analogy. When oil prices go up, gasoline prices go up. Period. So we know for sure that video game costs are going to rise—R&D is going to go up. The development cost is expected to go from an average of about $4 million to an average of about $10 million, and that's a guess but directionally it's certainly correct."</em></blockquote>

Why should cost go up for the producer ?
The cost should be less not more with more powerful hardware.

Maybe the truth is that when a few big companies put all other out of business competition is limited and prices go up.

Anyway if the price goes up i will not buy as many .

You couldnt be further from the truth. The more powerful hardware gets, the more work is required to create the ever complex assets required to take advantage of that hardware.

Why do you think there is no such thing as professional bedroom programmers anymore?

But i think they get a lot of pure cash from games right now, i mean look at WoW, you will fisrt pay the price of the game and then the monthly subiscribtion, and look at R:TW, how many people you think had bought it and will buy it???

It may be inevitable that they will raise prices, but not inevitable that everyone will keep buying.
