The very first and second quest - I need help

Rght after I exited the Census and Excise Office I found Fargoth and he mentions that he has lost his ring. (I heard that I should have got that right at the beginning of the game in the Excise Office - and I have been all over the office and I can't find it). Maybe a little help is needed here. Also, the second quest requires me to go up in the lighthouse and watch Fargoth to see where he hides his valuables. (He only does this at night). That's all fine and dandy, only problem is, late at night it is darker than H*ll down there and I can't make out anything let alone a single character. So where is Forgorth's ring and how do you see him at night?

Fargoth's ring is in a box or barrel in between the Excise offices. When you complete the first Excise building (right at the start), you exit a door and walk across a short grassed area and into the second Excise building. The ring is in a box/barrel just next to the entry door to building 2 (where you get your orders from the emperor).

Fargoth hides his stuff in the hollow tree stump in a swampy area in front of lighthouse (can't miss it - it's by itself). After a couple of minutes he'll wander down and stop in front of the stump for a while.

It's possible you may need to have given him his ring to trigger this properly (?)

I did not give Fargoth the ring and he still moves to his hiding place.
You need to catch him if it is getting dark.
If you watch him, you wil see that he grabs a torch, then you have to go to the top of the lighthouse.
(10.00/11.00 hour)

The good thing in giving him the ring is that the trader in Seyda Neen will like very much, thus reducing prices. And he still hides his ring in the tree-stump, so you will not loose it.

I did not give the ring back to fargoth so the trader does not like me that much.
I just had to use admire to get him to like me.

Tip:
Check hollow tree stumps near lighthouse.

That ring was really bugging me. I searched and re-searched the area quite a few times. Then I remembered the number one rule in game-playing: When all else fails, check your inventory. Yep, there it was. I guess I took it without even releasing it. I guess that's why they look at me funny everytime I go into Sears. Anyway, I gave it back, watched him go to his "hiding place" and stole it again (with the money). That's a big chunk of change, don't know if I will share the money and complete the quest or just keep the money.. Decisions, decisions..
