Is it a better idea to keep the Up depressed until the enemy is down and out or depress it once for every arrow?
I have not enough stats on that because untill now I only used the melee weapons (found it more fun) and only had to pull the bow to fight the Ork. |

I lean on the button. Once you master the bow, if you just hold down the fire button, as soon as you kill 1 monster, it will automatically target the next. |

Is there a way to keep shooting when the monster is already too close? |

The most fun you'll have with archer is when you find yourself a nice lil perch right next to a group of monsters. Once you are in position on the perch, best bet is to focus (highlight) on him and lets the arrows fly. Beauty of archery is that those arrows will inflict dmg on *anything* in its path. So even if you have highlighted 1 monster, but there are 4-5 more in the line of fire (actually this is the ideal situation: to always target the monster in the BACK of the mob) the arrows will kill everything between you and your highlighted monster without you having to switch switch to individual monsters.
If you cant find a perch to take mobs out from, try to find a bottleneck in a hallway where only 1-2 can get at you at a time. If you bow is mastered and your Dex is high enough, you'll sink arrows into them so hard they will actually be pushed back enough for you to sink another one into them before they get within striking range (called 'juggling' a target). By level 9 I was taking out Lurkers, Biters and Snappers.
Now, if you cant find a bottleneck or a perch, a bridge crossing water is your best best. What you do is stand in the middle of a bridge and shoot 1 beast, as he comes running, you take a leap off the bridge and onto the shore line, this will make monsters:
*Fall into the water, where most will either float or very slowly swim at you
*Bottleneck on the bridge where you can pick them off 1 by 1 by juggling them.
Hope this helped. |

Once the creatures are within melee range of you - it is best to "strobe" the up arrow. If you hold it down and he interrupts you, you are likely to go into a move mode instead of firing again. With the strobing technique, you fire just as fast AND won't go into the move mode if he interrupts one of your attacks.

When it's too dangerous to close the gap with an enemy, like with fire lizards. That's when you use the bows. Most other times, it's your melee weapons you should rely on. |

Ah yes, the 'Strobe' technique. Forgot about that...uh yea, what Joey said about it. In a perch setting you can go full auto.
Now lets see and hope the guy knows how to strobe |

I think Shrapnel answer it best. It is exactly what I do. He just found the right words.
If you are a magician, the Storm Of Fire works the same way. |
