Van Buren: Design Doc @ NMA

No Mutants Allowed has managed to their hands on an interesting item - the design doc for the Denver location in Black Isle's cancelled Van Buren/Fallout. Worth checking out both for Fallout fans and those wanting an insight into game design practices.

Sure it's interesting and all from a game design perspective, but isn't it a little wild to get so excited over a 4 year old design doc from a game that was cancelled 2 years ago?

Actually it΄s the July 2003 revision of the doc, so the 4 years old claim is ridiculous. It`s an interesting insight on how a CRPG is designed, the methodology that is used, it can only help mod makers and people that want some day to try game design. Every doc like this should be welcomed by people interested in CRPGs and the methods envolved in gaming in general.

Actually, its not ridiculous at all. In fact, it's the truth. If you bothered to pay attention to any of it, you would clearly have seen that a good majority of it was created in 2001.
quote:
8/11/01 – finished quests, last ragtag bits

8/6/01 – rearranged NPCs so most of them were generic

8/1/01 – added maps

7/1/01 – added quest ideas

06-25-01 – Fallout Location Template document created.

If you had followed the game development you would knew there was pre production work made since that time, but this document is version 1.0, from 7/24/2003.

Instead of reading things of uninformed fansites just read page 1 of the doc, i`ll paste what is there in here just in case :

quote:
DENVER/DOG CITY

Version 1.0

7/24/2003

So i`m afraid it is indeed ridiculous.

Read the last page before you go and make a fool of yourself again sir. And what fansites do you speak of? The only "fansite" I know of is NMA, and I refuse to read anything on the forums there due to the sheer stupidity of the content.

*sigh*

The last page has stuff from the pre production days, as i said, what counts is the revision version number, wich in this case is in the first page, and shows it`s the july 2003 revision. I should know, i used to do the news on Van Buren you read at the time at NMA, and have quite some knowledge of the design.

Really, please don`t say this thing is 4 years old, just because the first work on Half Life2 started in 1999 that doesn`t mean the docs are six years old, does it?

Hope you see the misunderstanding now, for any more info drop by NMA, if i`m there i`ll gladly help out.
