EA needs to stay away from CRPG franchises. They are slow to develop, cost a lot to develop, and have far to narrow a demographic for EA's tastes.
EA killed the Ultima series and the Lands of Lore series. I wish they would just get rid of those licenses so a smaller dev who can profit from a smaller niche could continue those series. _________________ The Poster Previously Known As NeptiOfPovar |

I was never a MMORPG fan and absolutely despise anything Everquest.
All I can say is two words now: Tabula Rasa
Ultima X looked pretty interesting and I'm disappointed it got cancelled, since I decided to give UO another go and just hang in Britannia.
Tabula Rasa looks the most hopeful to me. If it has everything Richard Garriot says it has, it looks like it may be the top dog. |

That figures. I win a free game and it gets cancelled. Well isnt that just peachy.
Like i said six months ago, UXO would be cancelled, and it was.
EQ2 and WoW are going to own the MMO market for the forseeable next two years.
Dragon Empires and Darkfall Online will provide the PvP niche with great games. They are targetted at a niche market and will remain that way.
Lineage2 will go on as a moderate success but count me out already.
Horizons will die.
Dragon Empires is not going to be cancelled.
George Bush will remain president.
The sun will come up tomorrow.
Kreator is the best band on earth.
and Seagrams 7 is the best damn whiskey in the United States.
and Marlboro Reds hard pack is really smokin. |

I guess developers/publishers are finally realizing that the MMORPG is getting saturated. First Mythica, then TFLO, Warhammer Online and now UxO. IMHO, in the end, it'll be World Of Warcraft vs Everquest2, with other small MMORPGs picking up the scraps.
Too bad for UXO though, it thought it would be the 3rd best new MMORPG after WoW and EQ2. And it's definately better than EQ2 as it (like WoW) tries to do away with the leveling treadmill and allows single player gameplay. Oh well, at least I don't have to pay for 2 MMORPGs when WoW comes out later this year
That is definately not the case. City of Heroes is still (and probably will continue to) riding pretty high, as far as I hear. Also ArenaNET's Guild Wars is looking pretty good, and that combined with the no monthly fee issues (or that's what I think) is going to bring it pretty high, too. So considering the on going success of recent titles (SWG, Lineage 2, CoH), and some doomed to succeed (GW, WoW), my opinion is that UXO didn't stand a chance, I am still wondering why SOE haven't cancelled EQ2, as that is definately the next big flop on the MMORPG market. SOE should have definately concentrated on upgrading the current EQ status rather than this sequel, which so far offers just some pretty new graphics, and EQ users dislike the ideq (or so I hear) considering the DX9 recent EQ flop.
No, not in my opinion! The Graphicengine of eq 2 is better than eq could be. And it is a new game, there are old and much new players. EQ is boring right now... |
