Can you locate dungeons/tombs/etc with the editor?

If so can you explain how to find The Alas Tomb? I've been looking for it for a day now...getting VERY old. I'm tired of flying around looking for it, so now I've gone to the construction set to track this damn place down. Where is the entrance?!

yes

Load the Construction Set with Morrowind.esm file checked.

Its hard to explain how to find out the location, but I found it out by messing around with objects inside Alas Ancestral Tomb.

And can show you the location via - Molag Amur Region (where it is located).

Once you have Construction Set running with Morrowind.esm file opened.
1) Go to Lower right of screen. There is a window named Cell Viw.
2) Click on one of the areas in Cell View so it is highlighted.
3) Now you can either a) go down list until you find Molag Amur Region 13, -4.
4) This is the regigon Alas Ancestral Tomb is loacted in.
5) Double click Molag Amur Region 13, -4 so that it loads.
6) To the right of this window should be a window that says Molag Amur Region 13, -4 objects above it.
7) Go down this list until you find the Door Marker entry. Double click on it and it will take you to the location of the tomb.

To verify this just double click on the Arrow (Big Pink one) that is Highlighted in the graphic window above. it wioll pop up another window that will say Static and if you look down in the middle of the window is an area called Assignable Data. Alas Ancestral Tomb is listed here as - Owner because this is the door to the tomb.

Hoped this helped some.

The general technique

There's a simple "scientific" way to find where any given dungeon is, as long as you know its cell name (what gets displayed on doors to it, etc.).

Open the editor.
File | Data Files...
Double-click "morrowind.esm"
OK
Wait for load. Wait for load. Wait for load.
Click on "Cell View" window.
Scroll the left-hand list in that window to find the dungeon you want.
Double click on the dungeon name.
Wait for load.
Click on the "Render View" window titlebar.
Use the "very intuitive" controls* to find where an entrance is. The places that incoming doors drop you show up as "door marker" objects which are big pink arrows.
Double-click a door marker to bring up its properties...
Press the "Select Door" button.
Wait for load. Wait for load.
The Render view now shows a close-up of the door to the dungeon, and the Cell view shows the name of the map region where the door lives. Use those "very intuitive" controls* again to get a better idea of the door's location.

* The oh-so "very intuitive" controls (after 6 hours I still get confused trying to use the thing) for the Render view are: hold down the spacebar while moving the mouse to pan the view. Hold down shift to rotate the view centered on the currently selected (red/green bounding box displayed) object; if no object is selected the center of rotation is not very useful. Press C to zoom in on the selected object from the side. Press T to zoom in slightly less close from the top. Use the scroll wheel to zoom in-out (actually to move your viewpoint toward/away from the selected object or the center of the view if no object is selected). NONE of these controls work when the Render view is not the active window, and almost anything except these controls will make it inactive.
