OC Guard armor?

how do I get guard armor and still become a mage?

If you're concerned about the armor only then that's simple... just become a guard now, play along and wonder later. If you mean how to become a guard and mage at the same time:

Tell Thorus that you want to become a mage. He will send you to the mages. Talk to Milten about becoming a mage. Go back to Thorus immediately and have him make you a guard and get your armor. Then enter the temple, talk to Corristo and become a fire mage...

It's an exploit though.
