| Old mine is closed-How do I open the gate?(Chapter2) |

I am a New Camper
My current quests are:
The big thing of the brotherhood
Secretion of the minecrawler
I've sat outside the gate for a full day/night cycle, tried the winch outside and cannot open it.
Unable to progress further in the plotline I have found the fog tower and killed the mage skeleton (getting the stranger quest), done the castle ruins (getting a deed to the castle) and am running around summoning skeletons to kill all in my path.
Will my exploring these areas ruin any other quests due to me not supposed to being there yet? I was thinking of using the transform to meatbug spell to get into the monastary but wonder if I'm not supposed to be there yet.

There comes new things every new chapter. I think you have to cheat through the gate. No you are not supposed to be in the monestry yet.

Avoid winches like the plague unless you are specifically given the quest where you are supposed to use it. Even then, save first!

I was going mad not being able to proceed any further with the plot.
Gothic is one of the best RPG's I've played.
