After hearing quite some people saying how effective Wave of Ice can be when you're playing as a mage, I decided to use the spell as soon as I was able to buy it.
So there I went. To the valley of mines, killing some dragons and I was on my way to kill the last dragon. Anyway I tried the spell on something like five lizardmen that are between one of the mines and the entrance to the ice world.
Here's the problem: It doesn't work! I know the spell has a pretty short range, so I waited until they were already bashing my skull. A large area of ice appears and seem to freeze the lizardmen, but they just walk out of it and keep attacking me. The icemass stays with nothing frozen in it! Did anyone else encounter this too? Is it a bug or I'm a just using it wrong. I tried it several times, but it never worked. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

Have you tried it on orcs? It works on orcs although not great because its rane is short. Lizardman may be immune to ice. |

Short of playing the game again, I will quote from the magic guide.
quote:
Ice Wave/Wave of Ice
-MP cost: 60 MP
-Damage: 2 HP
-Learned from: Marduk
-Ingredients: Glacier Quartz, Aquamarine
-Description: A sheet of ice expands out in all directions from where you
are standing, damaging any enemy within, and possibly encasing
them in ice just like the Ice Block spell. However, this
spell cannot freeze some of the stronger enemies that Ice
Block could. For example, Ice Block can freeze Dragon
Snappers, but Wave of Ice CANNOT.

Thanks, but than the spells it pretty useless. You can only get it in chapter 5 (the rune I mean) and then there will be nothing weak left that's worth to be frozen. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

Weird. For me it usually works pretty well. Sometimes you see a pack of 5 lizardman coming at you, it will freeze 4 of them. Sometimes it will freeze all of them.
The range of the spell is larger than gothic I. _________________ Arguing over the internet is like competing in special olympics. Even if you win, you are still retarded. |

It will catch the closer ones and then you have time to cast something like rain of fire. Worked ok for me. The ones near the edge are still damaged so that rain of fire will finish them off (lizardmen I mean) _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.

I did a quick replay of the game in order to check. And the result is:
1. wave of ice worked on dragonsnappers. So the observation in the magic guide is off.
2. wave of ice worked also on lizardman.
So I am not sure why SEM got a different result. |

I also tested it on stone golem. And it inactivated the golem long enough to kill it with a sword.
One test out of three on dragonsnappers did not work well, though. |
