Boiling Point: Review @ eToychest

Following on from yesterday's belting of 'Restricted Area' at eToychest comes a review of 'Boiling Point: Road to Hell' with an even lower score - 29/100 in this case. The intro is a little long to quote so here's the summary:
When you start playing Boiling Point: Road To Hell, you might be inclined to consider it the very definition of a noble failure - a game whose reach just exceeded its grasp somehow. But it is the consistent sub-par nature of the game that leads to the conclusion that it just really is a poorly made game. If just one aspect was done well - any one aspect - the rest could be considered worthwhile efforts. But Boiling Point: Road To Hell is bound to sit in the annals of poor gaming history, next to Trespasser, Daikatana, and other games that were hyped more than they were worked on, and left the gaming populace hungry for real sustenance.
Daikatana?! Hyped?

Boiling Point?! Hyped?!

I always thought the game would get mixed reviews but this is terribly exagerated.

Not being biased or anything but any review that wastes 50% talking about graphics isn't worth reading.

quote:
At the beginning of the game you can hardly even shoot your weapons, as your lack of skill apparently physically affects the machinery of the guns, translating into frequent jams and misfires.

He obviously missed the fact that different weapons have different amounts of wear!

Might've been different depending on territory but I do remember that Daikatana was hyped beyond recognition here in Germany because everyone seemed to believe that John Romero was a stealthed Second Coming or something . The print mags over here had uber long and detailed articles prior to the game's release and there were quite a few editors (especially a certain female one from PC Games) who got more than a little excited when they had a chance to meet Romero.
It was only when the game turned out to be rather crappy that the hyping, both of the game and of Mr. Romero himself (including the ego stroking which obviously didn't do Romero any good) ended over here .

well these guys made a shitty review of the game that in my opinion deserves at least a 8 ... Is one of the most daring games in a long time and one of the best games lately .Probably these ppl are always looking for the usual crapy Pariah , Project Snowblind crap made with a engine that the developers bought to make them work less ,think less , imagine less ... hell ... get easier money from ppl buyin' that crap ...
I can't stop wondering ... what if Boiling Point would have been made with the Far Cry engine ... probably it would have been one of the most praised games this year but now that Deep Shadows has worked on their own engine and made some mistakes ( wich they are working hard to fix with the latest patches) they receive crappy reviews like this one . The graphics are not everything in a game dammit ... the feeling you get once inside the game is what matters ... hell ... if you want perfect graphics play your own life or somthing...

P.S. : to correct myself ... Pariah and Proj. Snowblind are not crap but... hey .. if they received reviews with 70-80% notes than Boiling Point would deserve a fsckin' 120%
