Need to bribe the guards

Ok, this hasn't happened but once before and then I accidently fired an arrow at Mika outside the east gate. I haven't beaten up on anyone who hasn't deserved it this time around but the gate guards won't let me in now without a bribe. They actually called me a troublemaker!

The only thing I've done differently is play nice with the thieves guild to get invited in. Is this why? Has this happened to anyone else? If so did you figure out why?

Did your arrow hit Mika? If so that probably is the immediate reason. Of course, I haven't done anything with the theive's guild so I wouldn't know the result of interacting with them.

That was what happened last time, reloaded, didn't shoot Mika and all ok. This time I didn't even have bow out when approaching the gate.

I had similar problem, and with reload it reappeared even though I didn't hit the guy. I saved again in a new slot and problem solved. Don't ask me why. I have found a few times that little bugs like that carry over to the reload for some reason, but are gone when I save in new slot. Are you sure you didn't shot an arrow into the city and hit someone? I had that bug also, outside the wall, but the Npc's name showed up and it was one of the city dwellers. Very strange. I shot so fast, and then realized I had made a mistake.

That was the first instance, as I said, I reloaded, did not shoot Mika, and everything ok. This go around I know I did not shoot Mika mainly because they let me back in previously. When approaching the gate this last time I had no weapon out at all. The only people I beat up in the city were Moe, Mad Fallen, and the guy in the warehouse. Have never gotten 'in trouble' for beating up those guys before. So the only thing I can figure is they 'know' I've joined the thieves guild.

If you joined the theives, then maybe Mad Fallon is considered a citizen now and that is why you get in trouble. Before I joined any guild I beat him and no problems, but like you said, it may be different now that you are in theives guild.

Joining the thieves guild and beating mad fellan is not a problem.
Problem is did you beat fellan during the day or night?
If you beat him during the day everyone will see you and report to lord Andre,
but if you beat him during the night(fellan is allways hammering,he never sleeps)nobody will see you and everything is OK.

Actually, it was at night, Alwen was already asleep when I went back to tell him goofball would hammer no more. I might have a bug or something in my save, too lazy to redo all that stuff from the previous save. Oh well..**sigh**.

I had a similar problem where I went to Lee and he told me to pay a penalty for beating up one of the farmers. Only problem is, I had never beaten any of them up.
