Is it worth even trying Morrowind on my PC?

I have an AMD k6-3 550mhz (I think this is probably below spec?),
256mb,
and a geforce2 32mb MX

Well I play with a 750 AMD Athlon, Geforce 3ti 200, 512 MB RAM, and a 40GB HD, so you may want to upgrade at least the Geforce2, but this would only give you perhaps a slight increase in FPS but would dramitically enhance the visuals. From what I've read in the forums, even high end systems perform at the same level as mine, yet they are able to run it with more options. I play the game with 2xAA, view distance at 1/3 (I found that it doesn't detract from enjoying the game at all and everything still looks fantastic), AI to full, and shadows off (they look out of place). So, will you be able to play it? Yes. Will it be slow and painful . . . oh yes.

It matches the minimum specs, just.
If you are willing to turn the options as low as possible it should run.

Forget the eye-candy. Anyway, the game is FANTASTIC, even without the uber graphics.

I have P3 450 (better as your cpu), 128mb and tnt2 (weaker as GF2mx), and I WILL buy it once it hits the shelves.

I am not sure what is K6 - 3, but if I remember correctly, you can not compare it to P3, Athlon or even Duron.
Again if I am correct then FPU is extremly weak in this processors. That mean it doesnt match minimum requirements at all. I do not suggest to try this game on such PC (possibly if graphic, smoothness etc. really doesnt matter for you, then you can try it).

Of course good enough. Like I mentioned in another topic, my machine is celeron 400, 192RAM and TNT2M64, which is worse than yours. And now I am already in Balmore. The visual is not as good as the screenshot I see, but the game runs ok, at least for me.

K6-3 was the processor between the k6-2 and the first athlons... I don't think AMD made them for very long. They're basically a K6-2 with some extra 3d specific instructions called "3d now" [I think].

To give you an example of how it runs... it runs EQ fine in 800x600 with about half the new models on, in luclin zones i have to have the clip plane down to about a 3rd or even less. EQ is the most taxing thing I've run on it graphically, so I don't know how it would run something like Morrowind.

It's a dead end upgrade wise thanks to the motherboard.

If there is a demo for morrowind, I'll try that.

I got bored pretty quickly with daggerfall (and moved on to mm6), but morrowind looks to have put allot of what I didn't like about that game right.

Is it more realistic?... like you can't run naked through the town and not have ppl notice (that was always odd) or freeze to death if your not wearing the right clothing... stuff like that. I liked Arcanum allot for the way it changed based on your character (its not that replayable a game tho )

It will run fine

IT RUNS DAMNIT

I have that spec

and I get "stable" 40fps indoors(sometimes more but not lower)
outdoors is hard to describe. But I have 17-22fps in vivec and balmora.

needles to say I run audio HIGH(for the stereo)

distance abit closer to near then far(almost in the middle)
shadow OFF
antialiasing OFF
AI = NEAR/off

I have alot of utils to tweak my computer. Some of you really want performance boosts?

have a via chipset?

lucky you you can boost it to hell

there is an memory enabler
(George's Memory Interleave Enabler)
that boosts your viachipset overall performance
and of course your mem performance(not speed but its faster)

ex:

Motherboard Without driver With driver
Apollo Pro133 (ChainTech 6ATA2) ALU 124 FP 128 ALU 223, FP 239
KX133 (Biostar M7MKE) ALU 352, FP 376 ALU 413, FP 503
MVP3G (Tyan Trinity 100AT) ALU 110, FP 114 ALU 133, FP 139

the AGP GART does activate some of the gfx cards bandwith on 1x,2x,4x agp so install that to

BEfore I used the memoryenabler and the aqp gart I had MUCH MUCH MUCH worse performance..

/
peace
