...so I'm playin' the gothic 2 demo and I'm thinking ... |
|
Why the huge increase in required minimum specs to play Gothic 2 as opposed to the specs to play Gothic 1? The graphics don't look signifigantly different enough to warrant such a jump in required processor power. The character models are a bit better and maybe that's a portion of the new requirement but you can crank the detail level way down.
I'm sure you don't encouter any real performance battering areas in the demo so would someone, could someone expand on this for me? I'm lost on the reasoning for making such a giant leap in minimum specs when most stuff looks exactly like Gothic 1 ...
By the way the demo ran fine for me and I am on a p3 450 320 mb ram geforce 4 mx 64 mb vid card ... I ran it at 800 X 600 view distance 100. I experienced some slowdown as new textures were cached or on quick panning of the camera to and fro ... but nothing glaringly slow. |

There are many more textures than in GI, and wait until you come to an area with many people. The AI is a system hog. _________________ Jaz |

I made it to Khorinis and it still ran well with textures and models maxed ... I even bumped up the resoltuion to 1024 x 768 ...
Is there somewhere with much more people than Khorinis?
I'm going to buy the game as soon as it's out in USA anyway, I think it'll run ok even though my processor is way under spec ... and if it doesn't I need to build a new system anyway ... |

I'm pretty sure you've to upgrade your computer in order to play g2. I ran the demo on an athlon 600 with similar specs to yours and it ran pretty fluid even with relatively high details and view distance. But after installing the full version of g2... Oh boy, unplayable jerky. I quess, it's because there are much more npcs, monsters etc. than in the demo. |

It just strikes me as odd ... I actually thought parts of G2 looked worse than some stuff in G1 ... I guess they had a hard time streamlining the creature AI to take less CPU cycles. Oh well by the time I'll be able to afford a new system it'll be in the bargain bin. |
