Sorry, but yet another "can I run it" post |
|
I know this was flogged to death a while back, but all the player hype has finally gotten to me. I'm concerned that I might get bit on this one. For my system, I know I'll have to turn down the graphics. Since 3/4 of the glowing reviews run on endlessly about the beautiful graphics, I'm worried that the game minus the graphics might not be so great. So I guess I've really got two questions:
Athlon 650, 256 RAM, GeForce2MX (32Meg), SB Live Value, Win98SE
What can I expect? I'm capable of some system tuning, but I'm no guru.
Second, if you take away all the wonderful graphics, does this game still get everyone's "Best game ever" vote? I'm not a graphics junkie- I've been addicted to Wiz8 since it came out, and I've never even watched someone play Quake3.
Thanks for the help. |

Your system is extremly slow for MW. Slow CPU + slow Graphic card = all on minimum and still not good performance.
I can not suggest this game to you with this PC. But if you are really not dependent on graphics, you probably could enjoy it. |

Hello,
You have pretty much the same system as me,my processor is 600 but my video card is geforce4 mx440 id suggest buying this video card at
www.pricewatch.com i got mine for under a 100 dollars.
It runs decent on my system and i play at 800 x 600 and it still looks pretty.

Danicek: Did you run MW on a low end pc? If yes, what specs, and what detail/fps?
Thanks in advance |

No Mephisot,
I do not have this game yet, of course it will be better if you will listen someone who has personal experiences, but I read all sources avaible about this game.
I think that slowest PC for good graphics is something like 800 + GF2 GTS. But if you are really patient, you can play it on 600 + GF2 MX. |

Danicek: the problem is I have hear people playing it on a pII( yes TWO)400, 128mb and GF2, in 800x600 all off with a min of 12 fps. To me, that is HIGHLY acceptable. I have a p3 450/128/tnt2, and I will be happy if I can play in 640x480 all off min fps 10.
WOuld be cool if anyone would test it on min specs. |

Playeable for them. |

I have:
PIII 1Ghz
Geforce2 MX
512MB Ram
Win XP Pro
Since you have Win98 the fact that you only have 256MB shouldnt be too much of a problem. I dont have any problems at all with memory.
But the Graphics card is the bottleneck on my system. I am getting a GeForce4 soon which should give me perfect performance.
At the moment with my specs I am getting more than playable frame rates. The game only realy slows down badly in towns. But it is still more than playable.
I think your main problem is gonna be the 600Mhz CPU. The GPU is not so good but you could live with it. But apart from the nice graphics, morrowind is also very CPU intensive. I suggest you go get it from EB and then bring it back if it doesnt work very well. They have a 14 day return policy even if you dont like the game, for a full store credit. |

PIII800
224MB SDRam w/ 100mhz bus speed
40GB HDD
NVidia Riva TNT2 Model64 Pro
SB PCI128 CT4700
Win98SE
Latest drivers for all.
So, after several days of fiddling, my solution was rather simple:
Everything turned down on MW Options
Did NOT change virtual memory settings (with my settings, crash every few minutes ;-0)
DID apply unofficial no-cd patch, (but not sure it's really done anything)
Force Windows to use real memory before virtual
Edit system.ini to read ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1
Edit Morrowind.ini
Disable Audio=1
Font 1=century_gothic_big
I had caniblized one of the older pc's while my hubby wasn't looking to upgrade the ram from 128 to 224, and to put in the sound card. I haven't crashed once since.
The game IS playable. Yes, I've taken a hit on graphics, and I still have NO sound, but it's worth it. I'll invest in a better pc IF the XBox version doesn't satisfy me (I'm really diggin the construction kit). _________________ Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Mine is a P3 667 384megs Radeon 64 ddr
I'm playing at 1024x768 and view distance in the middle. Inside houses and dungeons it's smooth as silk. At cities I get some fps loss but it's far from unplayable.
I suggest upgrading memory and video card to run on a low-end system.
btw Does anybody knows how to see the fps? |
