I would choose soldiers because they remind me of the soldiers I chose when I began playing Wasteland for the first time, ages ago.. Oh, the memories..

Btw, you do know that Wasteland rocks, right?

We're talking about 5000 soldiers, which is regiment size. They don't sleep in the open like a squad or platoon. This kind of force will have at least 3 camps, each with a command post with the neccessary reconnaissance equipment. A regiment size force has at least three scout company and they'll sure use them at night

if the knights got horses (wich they probably don't) then they would easily destroy the camp in a couple of minutes, three camps you say? that means 10000 knights against a little more than 1600 soldiers each. have you seen LOTR: ROTK? 10000 knights are much stronger than the Rohan force since knights got better equipment and training than normal cavalery. they would walse over the camp in a quick attack at night. of course if the soldiers would attack the knights camp at night they would win even more easy....
plans are truly important aspects of battle.
have you ever seen Time Commanders at BBC2? thats the coolest tv-show ever.

Maybe you're right, but count in, that the Rohan force didn't have 20mm machine guns, APCs, and some grenade launchers. The horses would fear the sound and lightning of the guns, so they would fall over or run away. But knights never fight against infantry on horses. It is their strict code. Once they did, back in the middle ages. they where unstoppable, but the Swiss discovered an effective tactic against them. They used square formation whit pikes. This way they could cath the knight on the horse and pull him down. They couldn't get up beacuse of their armor weight and the killing blows from the soldiers. This formation was called "Landsknecht" if i'm correct.

Um, they do post sentries you know. That, and the noise of a load of horses coming their way would give the section/platoon more than enough time to get sorted out. A rifle is never more than an arms length away from its respective soldier.

At night???

Knight: Blast all this darkness! Can't see a thing! In which direction was that army camp again? *hits a tree head on*

Soldier (with standard-issue nightvision lens): Bang! Another knight down! That's 47 for me so far. How many did you get, Mark?

There were different types of course, lighter, heavyer. But imagine that you fall of from a horse, you are covered full with metal armor. Try to stand up in seconds and make a stand against the enemy soldiers in front of you. It's a bit hard i think:)

That sounds reasonable, but that they couldn't get up at all, as some people say, doesn't.

Bytespawn, what you are saying is not resonable at all, imagin 10000 knights going to a Camp of soliders at night:
1. they bearly have light
2. their armour and other metal stuff will make tons of noise
3. there are at least 100 (if not more) scouts awake in every camp

the soliders will wake up without any problem, they have their guns right next to them, there will be a sloughter!
there is no way 10000 knights will beat 5000 modern soliders!

I think it would be better to ask who will win in a 1000 soliders angainst 10000 knights fight, and maybe even that way the soliders might win...

I never said 'go', i 'said overwhelm' imagine one hundred guards awake VS 10000 knights (on horses as i said) theyd never stand a chance and when the others awake ,the knights are already bizzy with entering the tents to finish em ofcourse about 5000 knights would die...
