Hmmm. The UT engine is capable of doing cute stuff with landscapes, but I don't know to what extent. It's not really the engine's main thing, so it's not very likely to support a huge seamless world, is it?

Hmmm, this is not going to be easy it seems.

When its done, they should develope on the new Doom engine . If its nearly as flexible as Q3 engine was then yes it can be used for great outdoor landscapes and detailed objects. Of course there is a problem, ID software will spare no mercy when it comes to pricing for there engine, no mercy .

CryTek and their CryENGINE impresses the hell out of me though I have only seen it in pictures only. They are developing Far Cry FPS now and are licensing CryENGINE also. I hope PB will consider CryTek's product.

Some screenies:

BTW, S.T.A.L.K.E.R engine is also looking mighty fine:

If PB are going to do Gothic III with new Doom III engine it would be great.
I think it is the best engine for new Gothic.

If it can handle the AI and has a decent cost-value ratio... well, why not. Although I guess it will be lacking on both accounts, especially the latter.

SlamDunk, thanks for all the links. Man, some of those Stalker (X-Ray engine) shots are stunning... imagine how that would look in motion, or better... imagine how a Gothic world would look with those visuals...

Not sure what to think of the Crytek screenies... it all looks a bit distorted and surrealistic to me. I like the engine workplace shot with the river... nice atmosphere, but sorta alien.

It might be interesting to see what engine the developers of lotr:2t decide to use for pc version of their game..

This X-Ray engine looked very nice.

Well, I suppose you know it's up to artists how they build the game's visuals by using the engine's capablities. So, those Far Cry screenies are definitely not an example of how Gothic 3 would look had it been done with CryENGINE. The viewing distance in CE, for example, is simply mindboggling
