the gray pillar doesnt help .. if you manage to push it over if falls the wrong way ... but i think it might be a mistake that they didnt fix ...so maybe knocking it over ativates something somewhere somehow ? just an idea ..
A long time ago, when I first visited this forum, I saw a thread that said you could push the pillar over and walk across. I quickly tried it, and it worked. I remember feeling so foolish for not having tried it before myself. It seemed so obvious, and I had missed it. The pillar was put there so it can be pushed over, creating a bridge.
But I have played the game 5 or 6 times since then, and it has always fallen only the opposite way, as you say.
This is the sort of thing that makes me believe that, somehow, there might be something to this quest (that and Wulf's memory of it). Every now and again it seems that something will work differently for reasons I don't understand, like that pillar.
Could the difference be something as simple as having the CD in the drive? Wouldn't that be something! |

I'm completely certain.
I don't blame you for asking. I asked myself that same thing every time I played again and was unable to get it to fall the right way. The easiest explaination is that I am remembering it wrong.
But it's not hard to remember at all. I am certain I pushed it over and walked across. |

You know what? I looked it up, and it's in the Gothic FAQ, done so long ago. Check it out:
"Now, there is an optional thing here. You see the tower?
To the left of it there is a couple of steps in the mountain
wall. Use them to reach a place with a column and some kind
of chest on the other side...If you have acrobatics you only need to jump across the chasm, if you havnt, you must stand close to the column and push it from the right direction.
Nothing particular in the chest, but the satisfaction that you
solved another problem will keep you going."
Why would it work that way long ago, but not anymore? Was it changed in a patch? Hmmmmmm. |
