Don't let this happen to you!

So I'm surfing around the net the other day when Firefox throws some critical error and crashes. No problem, I think. I shut it down, then restart it. Er... where in heaven's name did my bookmarks go?! About an hour of hyperventilating, fruitless searches and two Windows restores later, I dropped by the Mozilla forums and found out this is a common problem with Firefox 1.0. And the worst part? The bookmarks are not recoverable. #%$@!
Luckily, I had been using IE up until a short while ago, so I was able to recover most of my bookmarks from IE. *whew*

However, as a service to all my fellow Firefox users, I thought I'd post this link:
http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=13

Install this utility. It'll backup your bookmarks every time you close Firefox. That way, you can avoid the disappearing bookmark bug and save yourself some serious frustration.

In moments like this, I'm glad that I use IE. Although you prob won't have the &^$ůµ@ Fable problem.

Thanks for the heads up and the link Val. I used to have that happen to me frequently with Netscape, but so far never with Firefox. Must be a Mozilla thing. Hope all the other Firefox users see this thread. Happy New Year!!

Bart, there is no Fable problem with IE, provided you have SP2 installed and Flash disabled.

Most of my bookmarks either live in my head or are served on an as-needed basis by Google. Scary, but true.

In fact, the only bookmarks I currently have on this computer are three links to forums, one to webmail, one to an online game, and one live bookmark of the latest headlines from the BBC.

But I've installed that extension anyway. Thanks Val!

I find that Netscape 7.2 is the best out there, especially with its Tab feature and inbox all in one.

Can't even imagine this. After all, this time of year is so relaxing for people in your line of work. (Happy New Year to everyone's favorite chipper/shredder operator, The Bringer of Blood )

Guess this qualifies as a little cookie for those of us too lazy to bail on IE.

I'm not worried about it, because I'm not going to allow some stupid ad to make me literally change the software configuration of my pc

*promptly runs 'n hides*

The Fable ad is certainly not the only good reason to exchange IE for Firefox. Tabbed browsing and extensions, to mention two other good reasons.

The Fable ads did ruin my surfing sessions, definitely. They look gone now, though.
