Discover Gilbert, the hermit in elevated cave parallel to Old camp's south enterance.

Its best to get this over with in chapter 1 because its a meaningless amount of EXP. And he will run away in the last chapter.

I'm not sure about the xp reward, but what about the quest to bring Dusty to the Brotherhood? This impresses one of the Baals.

hmm i actually never new about gilbert the hermit lol..
and the quest is called New Souls for the BrotherHood.. dunno how much exp u get, but its alot of running back and forth.

I'm not sure if Jeremy is listing the necesary(to enter a camp) quests only.

The Gilbert is nothing special. Even if you rob him, theres nothing unique on his corpse.

Don't forget give letter to Mages. I did that in Chapter 1.

The newsouls quest is mandatory if you want to become a templar. (Least it was for me)

There are five quests you can do do to enter the sect camp, but you only need to do four. So no one quest is "necessary" but all should be listed.
