Fireball is THE WAY to kill those bastards.I have a level 6 char., and while wandering around (exploring) I ran into them. Panicked, unleashed quickly two fireballs and... ...so...no point in poking them with a cutting stick.

after experimenting with various modes of fighting ylsides i think the fireball has it. it is easy, simple, straight forward & most importantly it works. everything else i tried only worked once or twice. or it required some glitch in the game play. for example, shooting ylsides in the temple with a bow because they can't cross the meat pit bridge.

Some rant

IMO Arx is very enjoyable, but flawed title becaused it fails to keep its promise to let players to play the way they want: if you were lucky to choose to roleplay e.g. a mage, then you will probably not even know about problems that other character types have.

I have chosen for rogue/thief character from the very beginning just to find out later that the ONLY bow in the game is a plain bow that does like 6 damage. What am I suposed to with that? Was it intended to be a niche weapon to shoot switches? Why developers did not put more bows into the game? Just emagine that the only melee weapon was the short sword..
If it were not for some gameplay glitches and Inut's magic bow which not everyone finds (btw, it soots.. fireballs and helped me alot against Ylsides), the game would have been unfairely hard.

Don't take me wrong, it's possible to finish the game and 2nd time through it would be very easy too, but I find it disappointing that I was forced to develope my character into another type or use tricks and glitches to pass some plot episodes. Somehow it diminished my rolepalying satisfaction.

Has Anyone Tried ...harm Spell

I'm not at your point in the game yet but killing the demon in AKBAA TEMPLE was easy with HARM spell...not listed in walkthru spells or game manual but it's super...runes...RHAA-VITAE...no mana drain...and great protection rings, graphics and sound...you can fight thru it and use magic too...LET ME KNOW...

i have to admit that i too am just a little disappointed with arx and i did play as a mage. it seems like many of my spells do nothing (i.e. mana drain or negate magic) or are just silly (i.e. levitate or create barrior). also, the effort it takes to caste a spell in combat is absurd. either you have it in your quick spell slot or you are in trouble.
