I was just wondering whether or not anyone sees the difference between the two. I tried duplicating a couple premade spells with the spellmaker, and they ended up at a higher mana cost and lower chance to cast than the premade ones. So is it better to stick with the premade spells rather than make your own?

Making your own is better IMHO since you can combine spells, power-up spells to your heart's content (As long as you can live with the price, chances, and mana comsuption.)
You can just make a full powered fire attack, or a 50 damage with Fire and Frost.
Some presets are good but I always rather just buy the lowest attack and mix and power up as needed.
Hope this helps
