Train 2hnd weapon w/o first 1 hand and stay in old camp?

Greetings, first lemme tellya what I am hopin to do.

This is only my second day playing the game, so I don't know too much...

I want a strong mage from the old camp most importantly. However I am noticing that I am really weak. I still have not joined a guild, although I am going for old camp because I read it is a better guild for mages. I am thinking that I should also learn 2-handed weapons.

I want to spend the least amount of skill points on physical weapons, and I have read that 2-handed is a lot more usefull later on.

I have read that Lee is the only teacher of 2hand when you have no 1hand skill. Can I make him happy enough w/ me to teach while still being able to join the old camp? How do I achieve this?

Also, will I do fine w/o any mellee skills at all? I should be able to join the old camp soon, but I have no idea when I get my first spells. I am level 5 and do okay against one single lizard.

Thanks!

You can learn from Lee late in the game.

You can survive without strong melee skills. You could spend points on Strength and be able to cause good damage during close combat without the one-handed and two-handed skills.

SPOILER

You will join another camp later if you join the old camp first.
This is why it is best for being a magician. Old camp has the first spells, new camp has the second rung of circles. So... unless you want to get up to a high level saving a few hundred points and spending them all on magic and circles at once late in the game, the only way to be a full magician is old camp >new camp. I think it was a design flaw in the new camp set up. There is no one to teach you the circles. I dont think it is even possible to do that, if it is its very difficult advanced player challenge.
With the sect camp you can only learn the first set of circles and wont swithc camps later.
