I'd like to say Howdy on my first post, and Roses to PB for giving us Gothic. I can't wait to play the full version!!
This is something i posted on another MB, I figure it'll work here too. Here goes:

EVERYONE is jumping up and down about the controls.
Let's not let the control thing screw up what IS a REALLY good game!
I am a lefty so this works really well for me.
I have bound all the functional keys to the numpad.
num8: forward/select/attack
num7: draw weapon !!*MODE*!!toggle (you all DO know that you can't do anything else when this is active! Right?)
num9: Action
num4: strafe left/drop
num5: inventory
num6: strafe right/put in inventory
num1: turn left
num2: back
num3: turn right
num*: mission notes
num0: jump/sidestep
num+: sneak
num-: player status
For run/walk i use the rt-shift and for the look around functions i just bind whatever.
Of course I use the mouse as the game dictates. I was so pleased when i found the wheel zooms in and out! VERY DAOC!!

If you are not a lefty, try modifying the alternative setting, offered in the controls screen, to a similar pattern.
After I set the controls this way I never had to think about them again. I actually started winning battles, and picking things up! The game plays VERY smoothly this way.
I hope this helps some folks to enjoy the game without any control probs.

Excellent job PB!!!

Hello, welcome, the controls are usually fine for leftys, however we only make up 1/9 of the population, so I do not know why PB made it the default setting.

I'm glad you aren't having trouble with the controls. Can you help me? Because I am.

How do you swim (I just drown)?

Where is the game journal?

The journal is L for me.
To swim, enter the water, you will float, arrows make you move, right click and you will submerge, once submerged, right clicking will propel you.

I have not successfully saved myself from drowning yet either;p, but I believe it is done with the action button/left mouse, and use the mouse for your direction.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW I didn't mean to sound gloaty, if that's how it came off.

What I mostly meant was that when I grouped all the keys conveniently together, the controls suddenly made sense.
Alot like Severance/Blade of Darkness.

OK I'm wrong;)

Right-click gives you underwater propulsion!

To surface you right click mouse down and hit the down arrow. Then you will bob up to the surface.
