LP, dexterity. strenght , how much is too much

Hi i just recently started this awesome gane and i love it( even tho my crappy PC runs it at 5-13FPS in town lollll
Ive been playing close to 20hours now but im still way early in the game, i like to take my time. I havent join a one of the 3 major guild, just started the thieves guild, the farthest ive explore is to the tavern east of akil's farm im level 7-8 i think and i killed every creature i could around the city.( wargs shadowbeast snappers zombies and skeletons are too tough for me)

Before going any further id like to do all the thieves quests cuz i cant be harrad's apprentice anymore and i dont know why( maybe cuz im Bosper's)
I read a bit about the mission and i know there will be pick pocketing involve wich i havent leran yet ( lockpick i did) My question is if i train pick pocket and get the dexterity for it ( 30) will that hurt me in being the stronger fighter with max sword skill?
If so , would knocking ppl down and using the oblivion method work like a charm to get me through the quests?

Sorry for the long post

I think you shouldn't pay too mutch atention to the thiefs guilt and it's not very necesary to learn sneaking and pick poketing it's not very necesary in the game pay more attention to your fighting system and strenth, If you will become a paladin you will get magic runes and you can use them witout learning magic you need just mana. Maybe Harad doesn't want to take you becouse you don't have the approval of the other masters. And one more thing try to explore the paths which are more farther from the city i'm shore you will find very useful things. Good luck

Ok harrad gave me his approval cuz im Bosper,s apprentice he just from one day to the next stoped talking to me. I wanna do some thieves quest to make money and i like as much as i can in the game. tho maybe doing the thieves guild quests i should wait for qhen i play as a mercenary..........i think ill just do the blood chalices quests and then kill jesper for the key and report them ... if im tio play as paladins i have to be good but rich ppl are arrogant so ill just steal from them lollllllllllll

Eh. I did the thieves guild thing anyway. Especially when I stuck with Bosper as my employer. Alot of people have alot of gold in their purses. I managed to get 100 dex still as a paladin, though the only rune I got was heal medium wounds. I didn't really care for paladin magic because it was more or less heal or do damage. There was no versatile spells like sleep or shrink monster. If you want to do magical damage I figure be a mage, not a pally. Plus the thieves guild gives you good prices for silver plates and chalices. I just wish the fence would buy more than just those things. Like gold chalices caskets gold plates gold candlesticks and silver candlesticks.

You should wait with boosting your dexterity untill you can face almost anything. For this low level, I'd say raise you fighting skill and strength first. You can always join the thieves' guild later. First join one of the major guilds (militia, mages, mercenaries). They will give you new armor too and that will help you defeat more animals to get skins for Bosper, etc.

You can only become apprentice of one master, so you can't become Harad's apprentice if you are already an apprentice of Bosper.

As mentioned, you can only be apprenticed to one master and if you've chosen Bosper, that's it.

Regarding whether to train Dexterity and learn Pickpocketing... well, it's a personal preference really. Myself, I always learn it and train my Dex up to 30-40 minimum. There are some things you can only get by pickpocketing. Example: the tower keys.
Spoiler:
There are a couple of good swords in those towers, that I always like to get.
Then, if you wait until chapter 5-6 you'll get some good experience from your pickpocketing.

Another good reason to train your Dex up a little is to be better with a bow or crossbow. I usually apprentice to Bosper and early in the game, when I'm weak, there are a lot of monsters I'd rather take out from a distance. Half-way decent bow skill doesn't hurt later in the game either, since there will still be some opponents that you don't want to get too close to.

Also, it helps to know which way you're leaning regarding your affiliation. Dex is more important to Mages than other classes, but it becomes more expensive to train Melee combat once you've chosen the path of Magic.

And, let's not forget to ask if you're playing the original Gothic 2, or if you're playing with the NOTR Expansion? That changes things a LOT!

Many things to consider, but in the end it's your choice. Everyone plays a little differently.

PS- Beating up many people, then using Oblivion would be a pricey way to go, IMHO.

Good Hunting!

thx for the info as for your question i have the original G2 i have trouble running it smoothly with my PC ( check the ' omg my PC is too crappy for this game: thread) so i figured the expansion id have more trouble with it....

i read about the towers in a walkthrough but i think ill wait for the next time when i become a mercenary... since im a paladins and i supposed to be somewhat good id like to play the role as close as possible... robbing rich ppl of their chalices was OK in my book. who likes them anyways ..arrogants SOBs lollll

you says DEX is important for bows... but should i train bow skill a bit too? or by trainning a lot in sword till im master my bow skill will have increased enough to be ranger?

I never put a single lp in bows or crossbow: I rather put them in lockpicking strength, swordfighting, throphecies or making sword

And so we return to the true power of Gothic, especially without the addon, you can choose whatever you want and still finish the game. Some ways are more difficult than others but everything is managable.
With the addon, you can forget about that. But it's a much better challenge and a better storyline too.
