They sound more like wings beating to me. And yes, they are probably one of the most annoying creatures in the game.

Agreed, although I have to say I respect the AI. They will find you and start hovering high above you. If you look up at them, they just stay there. But if you get into a fight or look like you're not paying attention, then they swoop in silently and attack.

I think they're the best reason to have a bow

Hehe, it is fun to shoot them high in the air, and watch them crash to the ground. I once trained a few into town, without knowing, and later heard the guards yelling 'Sketcher!', I thought they were after me, but it turned out to only be a few birds.

Yeah, Balmora: lovely place to raise your children. Temple, shops, guilds, bars, lovely riverfront properties. Crazy reptilian killer bird attacks on the decrease!

A nice thing is that by LISTENING you know which creatures are near. And if your 3D sound resolution is high, you know the direction from where to expect an attack or where to find your prey.

I love 'em. And Bull Netch too... I rarely get snuck-up-upon but I am pretty cautious in the wide open areas too. Besides, I just remember this simple formula:

Steel Longbow + Silver Arrows = Easy kills and Marksman skill increases.
