Dungeon Siege 2: Review @ GamerDad |
|
GamerDad's John Pollock reveals his rather rave review (despite it's "M" rating) for GPG's classic sequel, Dungeon Siege II: Battle for Aranna. John gives DS2 an overall 4 out of 5 star rating, and the GamerDad Authority "Seal of Approval"...

This game is rated M-Mature for blood and gore as well as violence. Dungeon Siege II is a violent game with blood all over the place. Bodies and body parts tend to go flying with powerful attacks. However, the blood doesn't stick around and the corpses disappear after a short time. The game is inoffensive otherwise. There is no nudity or objectification of women and no bad language. In addition, the game uses the fantasy setting to its advantage and you typically fight monsters and only rarely fight humans. On the unusual occasion that you do, it's clear that the human is a particularly ignoble specimen. The overall low difficulty of the game itself makes Dungeon Siege II accessible to kids who will find it just as easy as adults to mouse-click away hours in action role-playing bliss.
|

Just a comment on this ...
The 'Seal of Approval' is not a *quality* guide, but rather our look (mainly Andrew Bub's look) *beyond* the ESRB rating to what we think is an appropriate kid-rating.
The rating for DS2 was 'Adult', which is explained as follows.
quote:
This is our M-Rating, except we draw the line at 18 rather than the ESRB's 17. This is for exceptionally violent games or games with extremely mature themes and subject matter. These are the games your teens want to play and probably shouldn't. And that means these are the games your teens probably ARE playing already - even if only at a buddies' house. This is normal, just be aware and know what your kid is talking about.
Personally, had I finished the game in time to review it, I might have suggested the '14+' rather than 'Adult' rating, but ultimately it is the GamerDad himself who makes the final call.
For contrast, I rated Restricted Area as '14+' and Boiling Point as 'Adult', despite both being 'M-rated' games.
