Lost a Book

I foolishly sold a book that I now need, and I can't remember what I did with it. Is there any way to use the editor just to see what it's current location is? I don't feel like a grand tour of every merchant on the island...

Not really...

The name of the book won't help - he's moved it from its start location and wants to know where it is *now*.

I'm afraid that's a bit of a tricky one. I've heard some people have been able to fiddle their save games to load into the editor, but haven't investigated it yet. Probably the best thing to do would be to donate a pile of cash to the local temple (just so it doesn't feel like cheating!) and load it via the console...

@cfm: Don't try to make sense out of Omen's post (all together now, SPAM! ). Since the name of the book is irrelevent to the theory of the question, there's no need to ask. OTOH, if LarsWyrdson knows the name of the book he wants, I think he could determine where it is by searching his master file for it in the construction set.

Edit: go into the construction set, load the master file, select the "book" tab, find the title you need, right click, pick "info", and it will tell you where that item shows up in the world.

Still not gonna work :(

Re: Omen: Yeah, I think you're right...

Re: Search the master file: Unfortunately this will only tell you the starting position of the book. The master file essentially contains a snapshot of the state of the world before you appear on the scene. The save games hold differences between this initial state and the current state (thus the file size increases over time, as you intefere with things). The only way to get the current state of that book is to interrogate the save game.

Try renaming the .ess file to a .esp and chaining it in as a plugin in the editor (after making backups...) - I've not had much luck before, but haven't looked further than "oh, it didn't work".
