Other option is to collect all tips and hints to one topic and make it sticky, so all new users might find help from one single topic and we dont need to see those same questions all over again, anyone willing to do such topic? Gorath?

I've had mouse problems too since installing and playing Gothic. I'm not a tech but I've been using a computer for ten years. |

The mouse problem is sheer coincidence. All things fail - when they fail. If that HAPPENS to correspond to when using piece of software - it is just that - coincidence. There is no means (short of deliberate sabotage) for a piece of software to damage the mouse or even the drivers for the mouse. Now your OS can mess with the drivers (Windows does that all the time). Buy another mouse - if the problem is gone then it was just likely time for your mouse to go to that great mousepad in the sky.

WinMe is a piece of shit. And no, P3's dont go to 1.4. Winme is a good way to waste fast hardware.

Everyone here has been so complete in their help that I'm not sure if there's anything I can add. :3 Most of you know more than me. However, I must say that it isn't a problem with video card inadequacy. I have a TNT2 M64Pro and I get perfect FPS with 240% view distance and Texture / World detail settings at full -- which I think is impressive for my l'il ol' card (I'll be upgrading soon though, since I want that other 60%, among other things in other games).
I'm not that knowledgable but if I were to wager a guess at anything, I'd agree with the person who said he lacks the RAM. The fact of the matter is, Gothic is very RAM intensive since your computer has to remember what everything is doing all the time. Is that Scavenger sleeping? Is that Shadow in bed? I don't think 100 or so MB can even begin to cut it. To be totally honest with you, games like Wolfenstein -- as admittedly good as they are -- don't have much to remember at all, sure they drag on graphical power but all in all, it's pretty simple, it's just a game of tag involving a few people whilst Gothic is something far more revolutionary. That's why you've probably not seen problems like it before.
I remember back in the day (Did I really just say that? Guh ...) of Ultima VII how everyone would complain about how Ultima VII would be crashy on their machines and it was because they simply didn't have the RAM for the computer to remember everything the game was doing, Gothic is almost exactly the same in every respect and thus the problem arises again. If I understand this at all (which I probably don't but I'm going to guess anyway!) then you might be able to test my theory in the Mine. Since the Old Mine doesn't have so many people or monsters in it, your computer doesn't have so much to remember. Leave Gothic running for a while in the Mine and see how it goes. Even if you do get your other problems fixed though, with such a low level of RAM, I'm betting you're still going to have trouble with Gothic. |
