BG3 & NWN2 Infobit @ HomeLAN |
|
HomeLAN has <a href="http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=24824" target="_blank">followed up</a> on the recent rumors that 'Baldur's Gate III' and 'Neverwinter Nights II' might be revealed in the next issue of PC Gamer (<a href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10077&newsid=30509">story</a>).
<br>The Atari spokesperson they talked to said "There may be some truth to that statement..." . Makes ya wonder if the old "no denial is a confirmation" holds true in this case . |

Went to Borders and they finally got the PCG issue on the stands.. Wasn't totally positive about the scan (due to the whole photoshop factor), but sure enough, there it was in print!
Now let the speculation begin on who the developer(s) are gonna be.. Kinda interesting about the new unannounced Obsidian project.. I for one really hope it is gonna turn out to be NWN2 rather than BG3. BG3 is great and all, but no real comparison to Planescape Torment IMHO in terms of depth and overall awesomeness of story, spell effects, and the oh so perfect way the difficulty scaled (Maybe I just suck but I had to cheat to get anywhere in BG2 and IWD).. I mean wouldn't it be awesome to see old Feargus (seems I remember he was working for Obsidian) helming the same writing team that created PST to create an awesome storyline for NWN2? |

exactly how is anyone going to do NWN2? Bioware's version of NWN is mainly a toolset meant for user made mods and multiplayer, hopefully with a DM. Unfortunately for them the average user plays single player mods without the DM and their most passionate players play PW's with hundreds of areas so they misunderstood their market.
Like these Fallout fans NWN fans will be expecting a toolset and a DM client or it just wouldn't be NWN. Ironmically, this is should be NWN3 because the first instalment of NWN was a MUD game on AOL. I only seen a handful of players wanting (but not complaining) something akin to their beloved old MUD from Bioware's version. And the palyer made reamke of the MUD with the Bioware's Toolset was abandoned I believe. |

One way would be to license and extend BioWare's Aurora engine. Floodgate used it for SoU and CDProjekt Red is using it for The Witcher (also Obsidian with KotOR2), so licensing is nothing new for them. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

As long as they dont turn BG3 into NWN in a different setting it interests me far more as a single player game than NWN2, I like party based RPGs. |

I do not have much hope for NWN2. Since I play single player games, I was deeply dissapointed by NWN. It may be revolutionary multiplayer game with great possibilities for modification, but as a single player game it was just a stupid action game. It was based on a great RPG system, but in the gameplay it was not visible at all.
Baldur's Gate 3 could be different. Although I never liked Infinity Engine games as much Wizardry 8 , they were still good. But Infinity Engine is out and BG 3 will have to use a new engine. I am rather afraid that they will try to modernize it in the way which is unfortunately normal today ("quick game with dynamic fights" - this means a lot of action and possibly not allowing to directly control other party members, "making the game more accessible" - this means to remove any complexity and to screw up the combat similarly like in NWN etc.).
I just hope that there will be more from Baldur' Gate than just name (unlike e.g. the newly made Bard's Tale which looks like any normal action RPG just abusing the name of an old classic).
