Greetings all~
I just wanted to ask if any of you have experienced really slow load times. My comp used to open gothic much faster, probably 2 or even 3 times as fast. Now, it seems, when I first open the game, load a game, the red bar takes between 25 and 30 seconds to fully load and get me to the in-game screen.
Also, if there's any tech savvy out there, my PC now sometimes takes a REALLY long time to boot up. It will go to the windows screen (with the clouds on the desktop), then freeze..mouse pointer shows, but NO icons come up, and the pointer freezes. However, after 45 seconds or so, it plays the little windows opening theme and all my icons come up, things are fine. Again, this problem is relatively recent, and I know of nothing I put on my HD that would have caused this. As a matter of fact, I don't think I installed anything prior to this occuring.
Anyone have any ideas on this??

Sounds to me like:
1:)Lack of driver for your MBO
2:)Insufficient power from power supply

If your system got slower you should consider a fresh windows install plus driver updates. |

launch msconfig.exe and uncheck some of the programs you dont need to load at startup.
If you have a sblive, turn off off 16bit emulation or something. THat uses a load of useless memory.

Actually, I have fresh drivers for my vid/ sound cards (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound, btw). I don't know about a fresh install of the OS..you really think that would help? I can't imagine anything about the power supply being interrupted...I've got other stuff running off the same power strip with no problems..
Appreciate the ideas..I'll run msconfig, but I've already eliminated many things from the startup menu. Not everything, I suppose, but then again, I haven't added anything prior to this problem starting...

Defragging..I do that on a regular basis..
I've only reformatted one PC in my day, and I was in way over my head..I finally got it to work, though, and was thoroughly impressed with myself. However, it's not something I really want to go through again..
By the way..is there anyone here who is fluent in the C/C++ language, and would be willing to help someone trying to learn?? I'm taking it in school now, the intermediate course, and I may be needing help in the near future....many thanks..

Try this : get some sort of smaller electro-engine , open your HARD DISK and overclock it , for exmp. 7200@150000 rpm. Cool it with
liqiud NO2.

In all reality, yes it can load up pretty slow. But once it's loaded, everything is fine.
It's basically normal. If there is a way to speed it up. Cool, but it runs fine after it does load, so what difference does it make?

Heh, get a FastTrack RAID Controller and two quick drives. I do and a fresh load up take about 8 seconds at most. |
