BUYING WHOLE NEW SYSTEM!! WOOOO!!!

Getting a WHOLE new system tomorrow JUST to play morrowind. Specs are Athlon XP 1.7ghz, 512 DDR RAM, GE FORCE 4 MX 64DDR RAM, 40GB'S. Not really a real monster system but it's better then my 433 celeron I have now . I plan on buying morrowind tomorrow also. Now I only have one problem... to get rid of my girlfriend. I hope I dont get framerate problems tomorrow, seems everyone is quite irked.

Ummmmmmmm...

You sure you want a Geforce 4 MX?? If you've already purchased it, congrats..if not, you may want to do some research...especially if you want the nice water effects in Morrowind.

Sorry to be the one to tell ya, but the MX series doesn't support the pixel shading required.....you need to grab a ti (titanium) series card.. Geforce 4 ti 4600 (if you're loaded...)
Geforce 4 ti 4400
Geforce 4 ti 4200 (coming soon to a store near you!)

Right, forget about the GF4 MX. Get a GeForce 3 Ti200, or better, a GeForce 4 Ti4200.

Don't really got the money right now, I'm thinking about getting a Ge Force 3 ti 200 128megs, only around 130 bucks.

As the others have mentioned already avoid the G4 MX, in all practical sense it is just a fancy Geforce2. The labeling is VERY misleading on that card.

For full effects in Morrowind get a Geforce3 series or Geforce4 (4200/4600)

I agree

If you want value, get a geforce4 4200
For top of the line, get the geforce4 4600

I do suspect prices on these cards will drop quickly though... which game besides morrowind really requires one?

Heck, morrowind is beautiful on my crappy geforce sdr!

geforce4 mx

One comment about the MX

It's labeling is misleading, but don't discount it completely. If you don't care about pixel shading, etc. it does pump out stellar frame rates for a very low price. This card sells for quite a bit less than $100 for crying out loud.

Myself, I do care more about visual quality now so I will be upgrading my geforce sdr to a geforce4 4200 when the price drops close to $100

I still haven't got Morrowind yet. (It's not out yet in my part of the woods). I did buy a video card though. I got a Asus Geforce3 V8200 TI200. All this video card stuff is Greek to me. Can I assume that this card is a good card for the game. I don't know about you guys; but the Geforce4 is going for $400 (US); and I think thats a little to much to spend.
Anyway, is this a good card?

Isn't 40 gbs sort of small for a hard drive. Anyway, if you ever need to add more space I know that hard drive space is very cheep.

40 G HD isn't small, really...hell, I used a 20 GB for 15 months...you just have to really babysit it. Defrag a lot, keep the software to a minimum (uninstall those things you never play anymore.. hehe)..

I just upgraded to 80 GB though...no worries about space for a while now.

Max, that card should do fine. You will be able to get the pretty water now! I will be waiting for the GF4 ti 4200 to drop, as some here have mentioned. I think I'll splurge for the 128 MB card too....so I can use that when I go to my next CPU/motherboard combo...

And, I agree....$400 is too damn much for a vid card, unless you're Bill Gates or something..

I only have a 40gb hard drive, yet when I was once making a movie I found the space very limited. (2gb 6 minutes ) Here is an interesting topic for speeding up your computer

Is $450 a good buy for a

P4 1.9GHz 478PIN MSI 645 ULTRA333 256MB DDR333 CODEGEN 4046-1 BAREBONE SYSTEM.

Too think that the Gforce 4600ti is almost as much pisses me off.

The web site is here: http://www.accessmicro.com/hotdeal/computer.php3

Bizrate.com gives them an 8.0

http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide/report.xpml?mid=21343

So is this a good deal on a barebone system?
