Ekim's Gamer View: Lineage II First Impressions

Well, here I am! Sorry for being absent for so long... Life throws in some unexpected curves once in a while. That's what makes it interesting.

I wanted to share with you some initial thoughts I had about Lineage II. Since it seems that the "big year" of mmorpgs finally looks like it's going to get started, I thought it would be appropriate to make sure that our readers know we're on top of the new games.

So, do I like my first experience with the Korean title? Read on to find out!

I agree completely. Plus the Chinese adena-hounding companies and bots all over the place kill stealing from you, really makes it that much less enjoyable.

The whole preview seems to rest on the fact that the global chat was horrendous and couldn't be disabled.

Fact is, first that the global chat improved no end once the freeloaders left at the end of open beta, and second that there is a very simple and intuitive way of turning it off if you don't want it - I left it off throughout open beta but have it on nowadays.

I thought the review was accurate....although a bit charitable. I found the game to be much worse than Ekim makes it out to be.

The end game PvP has potential, and the game itself wasn't bad overall. I just don't have the time to get to 75 (rumor has it, that level 70 - 75 took 2 months, with 4 korean beta testers playing in shifts 24/7!)

During the weekend I was helpfully told by someone in-game that the global chat I was talking about was referred to as "shout" in the game, which effectively can be turned off... my bad.

But no, the whole preview didn't only rest on the global chat that couldn't be disabled, but rather on the aweful community that seems to haunt the game so far. Although I must admit that turning off the "shout" channel had a beneficial effect: it greatly improved my peace of mind and made the game that much friendlier.

But the things I've read said there still make my skin crawl...

Yes, Ekim. I found some nice people (a few) but the rest of the community are a bunch of idiots (and thats putting it mildly/kindly). The horror stories are all true. I have some horror stories myself. Like one time i was killed by an extremely rude person and my guild went after him to get some justice, as did i. But due to CRAPPY and flawed (old-styled old-school pathetic already tested and failed by AC, EQ, ect) "game mechanics," all because of one guy, half of the group ended up red, and then lost some MAJOR ITEMS at the end of the dreadful evening. All because we wanted justice. Because the guy killed me for no reason other than he was higher level than i am. So, i would say, that except for people ONE YOUR SIDE, the vast majority of players in that game are a bunch of pricks. nuff said.

Although, everyone helps people out when mobs are running after you and you are running away (especially on the newbie zones). Otherwise, everyone kills you. Darkfall has far better game mechanics, imo, and i havent even tested Darkfall yet. But Lineage is gay, overall.
