I have a geforce 2 MX 400 and I need upgrade help. |
|
I have a geforce2 mx 400- I'm going to upgrade but don't know what to upgrade to. $200 or less is a must. SO- geforce 4 mx, geforce 3 ti or radeon 8500? Here are my specs:
AMD Thunderbird 1.4 ghz
512 mb pc 133 ram
geforce 2 mx 400 64 mb
40 gig hd; 7200 rpm maxtor
I have done a decent amount of research on the various cards- but to be honest with you, I want a card that will work best with Morrowind
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you. |

Whatever you do DON'T buy a Geforce 4 MX - it's really a beefed up Geforce 2 and NOT a real Geforce 4.
If you want the real 4 family, look for names like 4200, 4400 or 4600. Those are the genuine ones.
For under 200 bucks you can buy a Geforce 3 Ti 200 - a Radeon 8500 or possibly a Geforce 4 4200.
The best card of those 3 would be the 4200. I think the Ti 200 and the Radeon perform about the same.
Good luck with the upgrade |

I'd get the GF3 Ti200, but that's just my opinion.
Agree about the GF4 MX - It isn't a GF4 it's just a reworked GF2 MX so you won't get any nice water and things like that. GF4 MX is an evil marketing trick which is going to annoy a LOT of uninformed users |

Your decision will be decision between GF3 Ti 200 and Radeon 8500. And it is hard decision, but if you can get them for same price, I suggest Radeon, because I think that GF3 Ti 200 is nearer to Radeon 8500 VE. |

Thanks for the advice guys- I've been leaning towards a Radeon 8500, I haven't really heard anything bad about them
Can't wait to upgrade, this geforce 2 I have is PCI (taken from an older computer of mine that didnt have agp) and I can't wait to see the better performance with a somewhat high end agp card |
