Is there anyway to save out a portion of my current game?

I'm tossing a coin over starting over, but my thieving bastich of a character has a very large library of books that I'd rather not have to re-collect.

Anyway of saving them all out?

You mean you only want to save portion/part of the current game? Well, no, i doubt it is possible....

Wouldnt you have to hack the savegame files to do that?

Not worth the hassle

Hacking the save game will be a pain - you'd somehow have to transport data from one save game into another, and that's just not really possible.

If you just want access to the data, keep the old savegame around so you can load it up if you need to refer to a book. If you really want your new character to have all the books, best thing to do is to create a plugin.

Load up the editor, create a big crate or something in Balmora, then just pile every book in the "Books" tab into it. You should be able to select the whole lot and drag them all over at once, so it's a quick patch.

Load up the game with the patch installed, get your character to take all the books out of the crate, save and quit. Now disable the patch and reload the save game. Viola, the crate will be gone, and the books will all be in your inventory. Now you just need to transport several tons of paper to the location of your choice...
