Gothic runs fine on Windows XP. Maybe not as smooth as it does on Windows 98, but that's because Windows XP came out after Gothic did. But Gothic is still very playable on Windows XP and it's an AWESOME game. |

I have reinstalled win XP pro for about 1 month ago, and tried to use win xp´s own drivers,, and i have never had my system run so smooth.
Gothic runs very smooth with all things on. So YES Gothic runs very good on XP.
1 GHz Athlon
ASUS V7700 32 MB AGP
396 MB Ram

I did start Gothic on ME and had crushes. Same in W98. Not even one in XP. |

XP is quite stable for me in Gothic.

yeah, it runs under XP. If you have a soundblaster live, however, it is going to force you to run in a 2 speaker config. |

Sounblaster Live is well known fot its problems with XP (and not only XP  ).
I guess they will correct main problems with new drivers.

Soundblaster Live is known for its problems with XP and outside of XP? What are you talking about, man? The Soundblaster Live is perhaps the most stable sound card technology ever produced. |

Danicek is right. During the Via 686B southbridge discussion a year ago MSI found out that SBLive! cards -and _only_ SBLive! cards- continuously send a stream of traffic over the PCI bus. This can cause a lot of trouble if another card wants to use the PCI bus.
From personal experience I don´t have a reason not to believe them.
Btw., I´m not saying that other sound cards are more reliable. The standard is, IMO, relatively low. |

I built a Athlon system and had absolutely no trouble at all with the Soundbalster Live!. The problems would arrive when the user would not install the Via's 4 in 1 drivers and just expect windows to control all PCI traffic to the Southbridge - which of course, caused trouble.
You can hardly blame a hardware archetecture for a missing software driver. Perhaps you can say the Soundbalster Live! might cause problems if the end user is extremely ignorant of the necessity of updated motherboard drivers, but saying the Soundblaster Live is instable seems pretty inaccurate. |
