I don't know what they were thinking...
But as it stands, magic is utterly useless, in comparison to other careers.
Ah, yes, you can paralyze your enemies, reduce them to dust, or make yourself invincible! ...Unfortunately, in practice, even the master mage can't really do any of this long enough to make a difference.
The whole problem lies in one difference:
The level of your magic skills in Daggerfall determined the cost of your spells.
This is not so in Morrowind.
When I realized my character with 95 alteration used just as much magicka as a level 1 mage, I almost lost it completely.
What is the point of having a high skill in ANY mage skill?
Sure, you can shield yourself for thirty seconds...
But why not just pay a couple thousand get an item that can do it an unlimited number of times? |

I don't know what to say, except that thankfully, I didn't experience the same frustration you did because I'm always a warrior in all the rpg games that i've played. I never really liked to dabble much in magic. If what you say is true, then I feel sorry for all the mage types that play the game. Unless they found the experience to be different, by trying different magic disciplines. _________________ Live by the sword. Die by the sword.

That is unlikely. Most people know that every enemies in Morrowind is easy enough to beat especially when you achieved level 20. Also, try alchemy and enchantment to create a long lasting spells effect or more powerfull spells. But then you would at risk to become too powerfull (running around like superman) and cause boredom... _________________

Yes, but those two schools of magic are the most NON magic-like. Furthermore, enchant is worthless for truly useful enchantments; you'll fail on all difficult enchantments, which of course, you can do with a 100% rate of success at the NPC enchanters. |

I read somewhere players who exploit/get around the problem (sucess rate) with a potion that increase you intelligence to sky-high level (or whatever traits that control enchantment skill). As for myself, i have mountains of gold to do/purchase whatever enchantment i want; and if i remember correctly the result of enchantment is better than you do it yourself (not sure).
Anyway i believe at higher character levels, even a simple spells is easy enough to send most monsters to hell in few seconds. They ain't tough as in some CRPGs.
Addition:
Also try custom create your spells (able to chose the spells radius, etc). Some people can nuke whole town with custom created spells. _________________
