"Bound" items

Okay, I'm sure this is a rilly stooopid question, but someone please explain to me what "bound" means? Bound sword, bound dagger, bound bowl of wheaties. I've played lots of RPGs but never an Elder Scrolls game. I await enlightenment, thanks!

bound items

A bound item is a summoned item. It creates a sword, for example, that has great stats and properties. However is only lasts for a limited time.

It is called a bound item cause you are conjuring a lesser daedra bound in the form of an item.

Yeah the bound sword/dagger/mace/bow etc can be a real lifesaver early in the game. The spells are cheap and caster reasonably well for a low level type or a fighter, but the weapons are awesome, do lots of damage. They are magical so they hit some creatures that normal weapons cant hit too- great to whip out in an emerency instead of carrying extra weight.

They last for 1 minute which is usually long enough to put a pretty serious smackdown on someone.

They're pretty godly... and save you toting around that 60lb daedric longsword. Until you enchant yours to soul trap etc. Everyone should get these tho they rock

semi related question

I'm new to morrowind though i've played daggerfall. From a previous post i assume that it is possible to make arms/armour lighter in this game also?

Well, yes

I suppose you could enchant your armour with Feather spells. By the time you're able to do that though, the weight isn't so much of a problem (if you've increased your strength on level up), and there are much more powerful things to enchant your stuff with.

But technically, yes

Thanks for the reply. Are there any buyable spells for enchant school? Haven't seen any yet which would make enchant expensive to bring up. Seems that i can either trian over and over again, or risk looseing gems with trapped jewels. If that is true than i've made a mistake of taking enchant as primary.

Nope, seperate skills

No, Enchant isn't a school - there are no spells dedicated to it or anything. It's more the skill of embedding spells of *any* school into items. You increase your Enchant skill by making items successfully or training it up (there may be other ways, but I don't have a TESCS handy right now...).

Ah, I think you can raise your enchant skill by *using* magical items? Anyone know if this is true? I seem to remember my enchant skill rising very slowly in the first few levels when I used my Engraved Ring of Healing a lot.

So I would guess the way to approach this is to gather lots of Soul Gems (buy them, kill Bonelords for them, find them in crates etc) and capture lots of small creature's souls. Now buy a lot of cheap amulets and rings and attempt to enchant them with low-level low-power effects, like heal 1pt, levitate 1pt for 1 second, fortify int 1pt etc. Now use the items totally, and stash them somewhere until they recharge. Now go out hunting Soul Gems and creatures again. Rinse and repeat. The only problem I see is the cost of Soulbind scrolls, unless you can cast the spell yourself.

Does that sound like a plan?

Enchantment: Very powerfull skill but hard to learn them by training
on your own. The only other way is buy enchantments you needed from NPCs. Or, use cheats like potion.

enchant

Thanks for confirming my thoughts about enchant. Sounds like it costs money either way around. I'm wondering why soul trap is mysticism. I'm guessing that it's a game balance issue.
